Leading Australian games developer Ratbag is planning a sequel to its highly successful Powerslide – the futuristic racing game that propelled the company into the international spotlight five years ago.

Visitors at the E3 games expo in Los Angeles will be given a sneak preview of Powerslide Slipstream, which takes video game motor racing to a new level of intensity and excitement.

In a significant development, Ratbag is self-funding the new game after acquiring publishing rights from Infogrames.

Ratbag Chief Executive Officer, Greg Siegele, says the company has further enhanced its proprietary Difference Engine® technology to provide the new game with even greater dynamism.

“Our supporters have been pressuring us to develop a sequel, but we’ve been holding off until we had the technology to produce a game that would have even more impact,” Mr Siegele said.

“Powerslide Slipstream includes several exciting innovations, including drive anywhere environments, the ability to perform jumps and stunts and, of course, slipstreaming.”

  • Up to 14 vehicles in two classes offering a range of exciting driving challenges
Up to 16 track locations to explore
  • Multiplayer mode:
    • 4 player split screen for PS2
    • 8 player LAN & online for PC
    • Battle opponents with weapons!
    • Variety of sub-games including
    • 'Last Man Standing', 'Fox Hounds', 'Head to Head' and 'Stunt Action'
  • Innovative Slipstream gameplay
  • Sophisticated, realistic physics engine with arcade-style handling
    • Pick up and play within seconds!
    • Take months to master!
  • Compelling, humanlike AI
  • Ratbag's proprietary Difference Engine Graphics
    • Teeth-rattling, screaming fast 60 fps
      Awesome special effects

Available for all major platforms, the game is played in twelve post-apocalyptic environments, including Berlin, Los Angeles, London and Sydney.

Sound effects will combine with heat haze, exhaust fumes and whirling dust visuals to produce a unique superheated racing atmosphere.

Wheel-to-wheel collisions promise spectacular accidents, with special animated features on the vehicles, including moving fins and stream vents for slipstream mode.

Powerslide Slipstream is due to be launched late next year.
