About Judy

As WP's senior editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

'BattleCry' - New Screens

by Judy on June 11, 2014 @ 2:00 p.m. PDT

BattleCry is an all-new free-to-play multiplayer action combat game featuring fast-paced and frenetic 32-player battles.

Step into a bold, expressive world where gunpowder has been banned after a cataclysmic world war at the dawn of the 20th century. Traditional warfare is now a relic of the past, and all conflicts are settled by elite teams of warriors in sanctioned WarZones. Trained and bred for battle, they face off for the glory of their nations.

Choose your faction and progress your warrior through the ranks. Each rank unlocks new abilities and effects, allowing deep strategic builds for your warrior on every level. Risk life and limb as the powerful Royal Marines or the fearless Cossacks. WarZones are designed to combine positioning, spacing and verticality to redefine your combat experience. Fight with melee and ranged weapons that harness iron and energy, and eviscerate your opponents with swords that transform into shields and bows that punch an arrow through an armored skull. Electrocute your foes with blades crackling with electro-static energy.

BattleCry is the first project for the studio since it was formed in 2012 with one goal: to create fun, high-quality online experiences for a connected world. Led by industry veteran Rich Vogel, the team at BattleCry Studios is comprised of developers with decades of experience on action and competitive multiplayer franchises. Together, they have created BattleCry, a free-to-play game that amplifies team-based combat by combining brutality, art direction and competitive multiplayer action to create a new gameplay experience.

Key Features:

  • Competitive Multiplayer: Engage in brutal, high-action, 32-player battles in a variety of gameplay modes.  Responsive, smooth controls unleash violent, high-impact, and stunning combo attacks.  Dynamic movement allows you to seamlessly grapple, evade and mantle to move quickly and evade the other team. Engage in combat and use the adrenaline system to unlock powers for a short time or conserve adrenaline to unleash your ultimate ability when the time is right. In BATTLECRY, your skill, timing, and teamwork create a diverse gameplay experience.
  • Become a Warrior: Choose your side from the powerful Royal Marines, the courageous Cossacks and more as they come online. Build and progress your warrior by earning iron and advancing through the ranks. Each rank unlocks new abilities and effects, allowing deep strategic builds for your warrior on every level. Select from classes like the Enforcer, who wields a massive sword and transformative shield to inflict and absorb damage; the Tech Archer who unleashes arrows from afar; or the Duelist, who uses speed and stealth to pick off enemies.
  • A World without Gunpowder: Welcome to a world of ritualized combat where open wars are a thing of the past and chosen warriors risk life and limb in WarZones to maintain peace. Each zone is designed to combine positioning, spacing and verticality to redefine combat.
  • The Last Moments of Your Life: Enjoy intense graphics and animations with immersive third-person cameras as you fight for your life. The bold, expressive art style supplements the visceral combat and heightens the gameplay. Inspired by comic books and illustrations, BATTLECRY's stylized environments change depending on whether you are winning or losing.
