15. 'Prey 2' (PS3/X360/PC)

While it did not release any specific details, Bethesda confirmed Prey 2 is being developed using id Software's id tech cutting-edge engine.

Mark Buckingham: Prey brought physics-based gameplay to the shooter arena like no other. In the time since, we've seen a number of other interesting endeavors for them to learn even more — The Ball, Portal 2, and Red Faction: Armageddon just to name a few. In an age where everybody wants to be Call of Duty, Prey strikes out to do its own thing (and do it well) in the realm of sci-fi shooters, and it deserves a look for those reasons alone.

Redmond Carolipio: You spent much of the first game being in awe of all the alien tech and grossed out by a lot of the orifice-inspired interior design. Now I have a chance to unleash hell on all of the alien hordes that sent me running in the first place. The first game gave you a taste of the alien side, and now Prey 2 wants you to wreak some havoc in it.


Reggie Carolipio: I was surprised to see the news on a potential sequel, this time expanding on the whole space thing by apparently turning players into a bounty hunter among aliens. There's a lot of potential to poke at, especially after the last game promised even more — though without its Native American star. It's still easy to slate this as another FPS, but I'm interested to see what Human Head will do to set this apart from the competition.

Sanford May: I worked with the Human Head team more than a decade ago, when there were releasing Rune, and while they developed a small title based on "The Blair Witch" movie license. I kept following them through the original Prey, and I've always felt that while their appeal is to hardcore spec fic fans — comics shop stuff — they have it within them to transcend purely genre material and make games for broader audiences. I think Prey 2 will remain a niche title; opposed to Prey, I hope it'll be more like Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner," which is a classic not only for spec fic fans but also serious film buffs.


Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: The blame for my interest in this game can be attributed to three things: a killer cinematic that was shown on the Bethesda jumbotron at E3 2011, the immediate thought that a lot of that had to be the video equivalent of bullshot, and the following real-time demonstration that seemed to show the game living up to a lot of it. The game is still set in the same universe as the first, but now you play as a U.S. Marshall who gets abducted by aliens and becomes a badass bounty hunter on a strange world. The gameplay seemed somewhat open world and had a lot of fancy tech gadgets and smooth gunplay. I'm just really hopeful that I don't end up writing a pissy article about how different the game is from what I saw.
