acquired by Gung Ho Entertainment, Grandia Online is the latest in the franchise dating as far back as the 1997 release of the original Grandia RPG for the Sega Saturn console. The game itself is set within the world presented in the Grandia series, in the "Age of Genesis", before the original Grandia story takes place.

Alicia Ashby: This is a big year for RPGs with fantastic battle systems, but when it comes to combat, Grandia's always been the pimp king of RPGs. Grandia III, due out less than a month as I write this, is doing a fine job of upholding the royal pimp legacy. The active battle system from the first two games is back, with a brand-new ability to juggle air combos for massive damage and spectacular graphics. Square Enix today revealed that it is working on a new title in their Grandia franchise. Unlike previous installments the new product will be an MMORPG, bringing the series online for the very first time. Under development at Gung Ho Entertainment, in collaboration with Game Arts, Grandia Online is currently schedule for release on the PC, although with nextgen consoles going full out with online capabilities it might be possible that we will see console ports in the distant future.

Enix America's sequel to Grandia for PS2, Grandia Xtreme has gone gold and will be available in stores on September 30th. Ubi Soft’s Grandia II for the PC has reached gold status. Already available for PS2 and Dreamcast, Grandia II for the PC will be in stores on March 12 for a suggested retail price of $49.99. A role-playing game, Grandia II follows the story of Ryudo, who has been hired to protect a young priestess destined to take part in a ceremony that could halt the rebirth of Valmar, the God of Darkness. The game delivers a 3D world with vast cityscapes and dungeons, and a unique battle system featuring a combination of real-time and turn-based combat.
