Indie Developer Roundtable - Fun vs. Tech

by Rainier on Dec. 3, 2002 @ 12:46 a.m. PST

GarageGames in cooperation with CyPR Media presents the final Indie Developer Roundtable of 2003: How To Focus on Fun And Avoid The Technological Arms Race. The series of monthly moderated chats is designed to improve the visibility of the "indie" community and give access to its leaders on topics of importance to the indie developer. Roundtables are normally hosted on the last Thursday of each month on IRC (IRC server: irc.maxgaming.net Channel: #garagegames). This roundtable will be held Thursday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. PST.
Panelists will include: Borut Pfeifer of White Knuckle Games working on Reality's Edge, Dave Myers of 21-6 Productions, launching Orbz Dec. 10th , Chris Cole - Monster Studios launching Chain Reaction Dec. 10th, Joe Maruschak - BraveTree Productions working on ThinkTanks.

The technological arms race rages on in the gaming industry, sometimes at the expense of great gameplay. This discussion, while not ruling out great technology, focuses on how to get to the "fun" in game development. "One of the toughest aspects of indie games development is how to keep up with the big budgets and resources that AAA publishers have," says James Hills of CyPR Media, "This topic will help indies understand some of the ways that they can navigate this challenge."

Future Roundtable Topics being considered are Comparing Low Cost Development Tools, Finding a Publisher - Do I Need an Agent?, Developing & Completing Innovative Games, From Here to There: Developing a Professional Portfolio and other topics nominated by developers.
