Konami of Europe has confirmed a March 28th release date for the PlayStation 2 version of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance - and has also announced that the Sony version of the game will include a DVD of 'The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2' at no extra cost.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance is a radical new take on Hideo Kojima's best-selling tale of stealth, heroism and double-crossing. Featuring new missions, characters and settings created by Kojima-san and his team, Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance retains the ground breaking stealth-based action of its predecessor, with players guiding a series of characters through key terrorist situations.

Solid Snake and his protégé Raiden return to the PlayStation 2 fold, and their various abilities are further showcased in 150 alternative missions, and across 350 VR missions designed to test their agility, stealth and weapons skills within virtual reality scenarios where the normal rules of combat are altered to push the player to new levels. The game also drops Snake into five new 'Snake Tales' set within environments seen in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

Konami of Europe is also delighted to include the acclaimed 'The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2' DVD as part of the PAL release at no extra cost. Created to complement Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance's world-renowned cinematic visuals and its incredible level of presentation, the DVD offers an exhaustive overview of the game and allows the player an unprecedented look into how the game was created.

Designed as a fully interactive experience, the DVD divulges the game's deepest secrets. The many 3D characters, maps and backdrops can be closely examined from any angle, while additional demonstration of the polygon-based sequences used in the game can be paused, played in slow-motion and viewed for key angles to gain greater understanding of how they were accomplished. Similarly, the DVD also includes an easy to understand description of the programming techniques and their implementation in the game. Project proposals, the final script, staff profiles and previously unseen behind the scenes footage complete this revealing looking at Metal Gear Solid 2's creation. The DVD also includes an isolated version of the game's haunting soundtrack.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty has sold over 5.5 million copies worldwide to date, and Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance marks a welcome update for PlayStation 2 users, with devout Solid Snake fans certain to enjoy a host of new costume changes, game modes and surprises - including the vaunted appearance of Snake on a skateboard, exclusive to the PlayStation 2 game.

Metal Gear Solid Substance 2 will be released for PlayStation 2 March 28th, priced £39.99.
