Tri Synergy Announces 'Purge' Has Gone Gold - Screens

by Rainier on March 20, 2003 @ 5:20 p.m. PST

Already known but finally official, Tri Synergy announced today that Purge, an online-only title that delivers a compelling combination of first-person-shooter gameplay and role-playing character development, has gone gold. Developed by Freeform Interactive LLC, Purge immerses players in a strife-torn world that blends science fiction and fantasy. In Purge, players will find themselves engrossed in a war between two opposing forces, the Order (humans genetically modified to scientific perfection) and the Chosen (religious believers who reject all forms of technology). “Purge is a title that’s in a class of its own,” said Shane Nestler, executive vice president of Tri Synergy. “The blending of FPS and RPG elements, along with online-only gameplay, will allow players a gaming experience that is both fast-paced and deep.”

In a war that pits the Order against the Chosen, players must work as a team to eliminate the enemy spawn portal in order to assure their clan’s survival. Players must gain experience by eliminating an enemy or objective in order to move through levels and become more intelligent, stronger, faster and more accurate. With complete character customization, up to 64 players can enter a game simultaneously. In Purge, the 32 innovative weapons featured in the game are diametrically opposed. Thus, an Order weapon has an exact opposite Chosen weapon that can directly cancel it out when considering the power of one team over another. Players must skillfully choose characters and weaponry when learning how to effectively deal with the enemy.
