The employees of Scion Studios have joined Epic Games in a move that doubles Epic's in-house development capacity. This will increase Epic's ability to develop multiple games, including those in its award-winning Unreal franchise, internally for both PC and console platforms.

Michael V. Capps, Ph.D., former CEO of Scion Studios, will head Epic's development and production management in his new role as president of Epic Games. Tim Sweeney remains Chairman and CEO of the company. Before founding Scion, Dr. Capps designed and produced America 's Army, the hugely popular multiplayer US Army game built with Epic's Unreal Engine technology.

"Mike has done an outstanding job managing development and establishing teams that were able to leverage the Unreal Engine technology," says Mark Rein , Vice President and co-founder Epic Games, "The combination of Epic's and Scion's world-class development teams makes Epic Games an even stronger technology leader and one of the top independent game development studios in the world.”

Attendees of this year's Game Developer Conference in San Jose , California will be able to get a glimpse of the company's latest engine technology when Epic showcases the stunning new Unreal Engine3, as well as massive improvements and rendering enhancements for UnrealEngine2 which will be demonstrated on Xbox.
