'Fatal Frame III: The Tormented' (PS2) Haunts Retail Stores

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented is a complete Japanese Horror interactive experience as the player takes on the role of Rei, a cursed young woman whose overwhelming guilt and tormented dreams lead her into a formidable world where the lines between reality and nightmares are blurred and the only way out is to solve the mystery of the tattoo. What the player will see in Rei's dreams is only the beginning of the nightmare, making Fatal Frame III: The Tormented the most terrifying virtual experience to date.

“Inspired by firsthand experiences with the supernatural, Fatal Frame’s trademark Camera Obscura defense puts the player face to face with horrifying ghosts,” said Andrea Frechette, marketing manager at Tecmo Inc. “When not battling ghosts head-on, Fatal Frame III’s subtle audio and unearthly visuals will give players the unsettling feeling that the ghosts in the game are not the only ones surrounding them.”

In Fatal Frame III: The Tormented, the player takes on the role of Rei Kurosawa, a young woman whose overwhelming guilt and tormented dreams lead her into a formidable world, the House of Sleep, where the lines between reality and nightmare are blurred and her only hope for escape is to solve the mystery of the tattoo that is slowly overtaking her body. Armed with the Camera Obscura, Rei takes photos of restless spirits to fend them off and to gather clues in an effort to free herself from the curse of the tattoo. What the player sees in Rei’s dreams is only the beginning of the nightmare, as the player takes on the roles of her friends, Kei Amakura and Miku Hinasaki, and explores the House of Sleep and its tortured spirits through their nightmares and with their unique abilities.

Capturing the essence of the Japanese horror genre, detailed visual effects and subtle, unexpected sounds taunt the imagination with the constant fear of things present but intangible. As Rei becomes more involved in the House of Sleep, her personal and spectral torments will consume and terrify the player as only Fatal Frame can.

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented is available exclusively for the PS2 for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and is rated “M” (“Mature” ? Blood, Violence ? content suitable for persons ages 17 and older).
