Digital Jesters Self-Publishing 'Bet on Soldier' in North America

by Rainier on March 8, 2005 @ 7:00 p.m. PST

With a corporation-takes-over-the-world-style plot, Bet On Soldier allows players to do exactly what it promises with its title - that is, bet on the outcome of encounters with specific enemies.

"In just over a year, we have managed to publish over a dozen PC titles in Europe," said Terry Malham, commercial director and co-founder, Digital Jesters. "While we are still a young company, we felt it was time to challenge ourselves by reaching into the U.S. market with a top-notch title, an FPS with a different sort of feel than any other game on the market today.”

Digital Jesters was formed by ex-members of CDV following the decision by CDV to close their UK office. Between 2000 and 2003 this same team built CDV UK from a start up company into the 10th largest PC publisher in the UK, generating over £2.5 million in turnover over the first 12 months of trading. The firm is comprised of a lean, experienced staff that has launched franchises such as Sudden Strike, Cossacks, eJay, Red Faction and WWE as well as enjoyed commercial and critical success in the UK with titles such as TrackMania, Pro Rugby, Chaos League and D-Day.

Bet On Soldier is a high stakes first-person shooter where players need a quick mind along with quick reflexes. The game allows players to do exactly what it promises with its title - bet on the outcome of encounters with specific enemies. Before entering battle, players wager on which particular enemy soldiers they are going to kill. When they encounter this enemy in the game, a duel will take place. Depending on the outcome, the player will either lose his stake or win a prize calculated according to his opponent's rank, his initial stake, and the length of time it took to win. If a person continues to win, they can upgrade their character, which in turn will help them compete against progressively tougher opponents and battles.

“We only intend on bringing innovative, top-notch titles to the market, and we think Bet On Solider has established itself as a compelling alternative to the barrage of standard first-person shooters that are flooding the market,” said Malham. “The title will combine old-time board game excitement with state of the art graphics.”

Developed out of France by Kylotonn, Bet on Soldier takes full advantage of the latest in DirectX9 graphics and rendering, fully utilizing pixel and vertex shaders, advanced specular effects, and the Kt proprietary physics engine.

Bet on Solider is scheduled for release in the U.S. this summer.
