'Reach for the Stars' Goes Gold .. Again

by Rainier on May 4, 2005 @ 12:43 a.m. PDT

Matrix Games announced today that the re-release of the SSG classic Reach for the Stars has gone gold and is expected to be available for sale this week. The updated version of Reach for the Stars, which is based on the 2000 release, contains bug fixes and enhancements that were never released to the public.

The original Reach for the Stars is noted to have been a pioneer in 4x Space Strategy games. 4x Strategy refers to the four activities you perform, Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. Reach for the Stars for Matrix Games has been reworked for greater stability and incorporates the final unreleased version from Strategic Studies Group, the developers of the original and 2000 releases.

In Reach for the Stars there are fifteen races, each with specific advantages and disadvantages, and you must lead yours to victory by conquering and researching. You can, for instance, take the Combine race and use superior weapons and military equipment to your advantage, or the powerhouse economy of the LsLs. As you grow and research new buildings and ships become available to you, which will help you conquer new worlds and new enemies.
