The basic goal of tennis is simple enough - hit the ball over the net. Professional tennis however is filled with numerous techniques that enhance the gameplay as a whole. Whether it’s hitting a slice approach shot to keep the ball low, a hard kick serve to blast an ace, or top spin backhands to pass aggressive volleyers, Top Spin for PlayStation®2 offers tennis fans the most comprehensive tennis video game experience.

Utilizing intuitive controls with brilliant animations, the key behind Top Spin’s gameplay success is equipping the player with several types of shots to choose from. The types of shots available - flat, topspin, or slice - are determined by the correct timing and positioning of the tennis player. Adding to the true-to-tennis gameplay, Top Spin introduces the Risk Shot mechanic. Risk shots are very powerful shots that, when well-timed, can be very important to a player’s game. A Risk Shot can be completed by holding down the R1 button while serving or on any groundstroke. A meter will then appear indicating that a Risk Shot has been initiated. Lining up the cursor in the Risk Shot Meter correctly will execute a powerful shot, but one small mistake will send the ball into the net or out-of-bounds. Whether it’s taking big risks for rewards or sticking to the tennis fundamentals, Top Spin for PlayStation 2 has all the shots.
