On Friday, February 17, Team Legends emerged as the winner of EA's "Best of the Battlefield" video game tournament. The tournament, which was played on Xbox for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, ended with a final score of 340 to 337, with Team Legends narrowly defeating Team Professional Skills.

The 10-member team claimed the grand prize of $250,000 - $25,000 for each team member. Defeated, but far from broken, Team Professional Skills collected $50,000 for their valiant second place finish.

The massive tournament began in November and featured one of the largest prize purses of any video game tournament in history - more than $300,000. Over 200+ hopeful teams (10 players each) registered and went head-to-head for a spot in the finals. The tournament was broken into two brackets - those playing on Xbox and those on PS2, with the winning team from each bracket facing each other in the finals, and the team with the most accumulated points choosing the console for the finals. By December, only two teams remained - Team Legends and Team Professional Skills. Team Legends, the Xbox bracket winner and overall points leader, chose the Xbox console for the final match.

Prizing:

  • Grand Prize: $250,000 - One cash purse awarded to the team that won their platform bracket and the championship.
  • First Prize: $50,000 - One cash purse awarded to the team that won their platform bracket but lost the championship.
  • Second Prize: $10,000 - One cash purse awarded to each of the two teams that made it to their platform bracket finals but lost.
