Xfire Adds Video Capture Features

by Rainier on Aug. 11, 2008 @ 5:15 p.m. PDT

Xfire announced its new video capture update to the Xfire software that will allow users to capture unlimited gameplay footage and seamlessly upload it to their Xfire profile page, while the video capture tool also provides the ability for users to add tags and comments.

Allowing users to capture unlimited gameplay footage and seamlessly upload it to their Xfire profile page, the video capture tool also provides the ability for users to add tags and comments. The easy-to-use application requires no advanced technical knowledge, additional downloads or extra programs for use. All it takes is a simple "scroll lock + V" keystroke and Xfire users are on their way to sharing their gaming prowess with the world.

"We are committed to enhancing the Xfire community's user experience and attracting new members by offering integrated video capture, one of the most requested features by gamers," said Adam Boyden, General Manager, Xfire, Inc. "Our community members have been wanting a feature that simplifies the video capture process, and we are pleased that our new Xfire update not only enables this, but also allows for seamless uploading and sharing of user-generated content."

The Xfire video capture tool allows users to record unlimited high-quality gameplay footage at its original resolution. Perhaps the most unique element of video capture is "Xfire Flashback," a TiVo®-like function that allows users to go back and record footage five to ten seconds after it happened. Storytellers beware: this might bring an end to the legendary folklore of gaming feats; now hardcore and casual users alike can simply respond: "Xfire Video, or it didn't happen."

This offering is one of many new features Xfire is rolling out to enhance the overall user experience, building on the free product that allows gamers to connect and play with friends online. Other recent updates include enhancements to file transfers, screenshot uploads and more.

Xfire has also greatly enhanced its Web offerings. The recently re-launched website provides users an instant "Activity Report" of their top friends, Clans & Guilds management tools and a streamlined integration of stats, videos and screenshots between the gaming application and their Profile pages.

The 5MB Xfire application, including easy-to-use video capture is free and available to download, and specific information and a tutorial about video capture is also available.
