by Rainier on July 24, 2009 @ 10:17 a.m. PDT

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game takes you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Na’'vi, Pandora’s indigenous people, gamers will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.

"Avatar" is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than ten years in the making, Avatar marks Cameron's return to feature directing since helming 1997's Titanic, the highest grossing film of all time and winner of eleven Oscars including Best Picture. The "Avatar" cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver. Academy Award-winning visual effects house, WETA Digital, renowned for its work in "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy and "King Kong," will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

PS3/X360/PC

Wii

Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver will voice the role of Dr. Grace Augustine in the Wii, PS3, X360 and PC editions of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game, while other actors from the film that will appear in the game include Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Lang.

Rodriguez's character, Trudy Chacon, functions as the player's chopper pilot throughout the Xbox 360, PS3 system and PC versions of the game. Ribisi reprises his role as the arrogant Parker Selfridge, appearing exclusively in the Wii version of the game. The film's antagonist, Col. Quaritch, played and voiced by Lang, will appear in the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions.

"We are very excited to have actors from the film provide voiceover work for the different versions of the video game,” said Patrick Naud, executive producer for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. "Having the characters from the film voiced by the actors that portrayed them appear in the game adds a level of authenticity you just can't get any other way.”

The game is expected to release in conjunction with the movie's planned opening in Dec. 2009.
