Sony Online Celebrates Holidays Across Its MMOs

by Rainier on Dec. 16, 2010 @ 4:22 p.m. PST

Sony Online Entertainment is gearing up for winter by spreading holiday cheer across its online gaming catalog with festive in-game events, activities and more in Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Free Realms, EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Star Wars Galaxies.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures:  The decorations are up on Orto Plutonia for Life Day in Clone Wars Adventures. Life Day brings a host of holiday decorations to the virtual world.  Players can collect Life Day Orbs from around the Jedi Temple for rewards or wear Life Day Robes and collect presents from the Gifting Tree. Clone Trooper nutcrackers, Clone Snowtrooper outfits, Droid garland and many more festive items will be available for purchase in the Marketplace..

Free Realms: Snow Days triumphantly takes over Snowhill for the second annual winter holiday celebration in Free Realms, complete with fruitcake, fun and decorations galore.  Candi Ivy returns to look after the Gifting Tree and share its gifts with players, but the Abominable Snowman and his snowmen minions are trying to steal the presents. Players can pelt these thieves with snowballs to earn rewards and keep Snowhill a joyous winter wonderland.  The Marketplace is stocked with holiday clothes, costumes and items, including the new snow-globe and snowball rides! Snow Days sticks around through Jan. 19, 2011.

EverQuest: The annual Frostfell event will be celebrated throughout Norrath through Jan. 8, 2011. For years, Frostfell celebrations have been spoiled by thievery and crisis and this year, Santug Claugg is suffering a horrible melancholy and wants to cancel the holiday festivities. Players must help him feel like himself again by participating in Operation: Jolliness and Gathering Holiday Cheer.

EverQuest II: Frostfell, the annual Norrathian festival of kinship, feasting and giving, returns to EverQuest II. Festive decorations can be found all around, including New Halas, where Gigglebigger goblins abound. Players who want to jump right into the holiday spirit should enter the Frostfell Wonderland Village through one of the various Magic Closets. Santa Glug is back with 13 tradable gifts and Gixen, one of Santa Glug’s helpers in Enchanted Lands, is exchanging odd gift-boxes and toys for Frozen Tokens of E’ci.

Star Wars Galaxies: Through Jan. 11, Dearic, Wayfar and Doaba Guerfel will be beautifully decorated for the annual Wookiee Life Day festivities. Trandoshan Traders and Wookiee Freedom Fighters have plenty of winter-themed quests to offer. Members of the Rebellion can decorate trees to receive special Life Day rewards while Members of the Empire will be rewarded for destroying presents that the Rebels leave behind. Players can also visit the Wroshyr Tree to receive special gifts and listen to holiday tunes from Figran D’an and the Model Nodes.

SOE is also continuing its support of Child’s Play, a charity that is dedicated to providing children with toys and age-appropriate games at more than 70 hospitals worldwide, by participating in the annual Child’s Play Winter Charity Drive. For each select in-game item purchased from Dec. 21 through Dec. 31, SOE will donate $10 to the charity, up to $50,000 total. Participating items include: P3-NUT, a nutcracker-themed Droid pet in Clone Wars Adventures; a penguin pet in Free Realms; the Child’s Play cardboard tube ornamentation, an effect that makes any weapon look like a cardboard tube in EverQuest and the cloak of falling snow in EverQuest II.
