'Monster Hunter Tri' (Wii) Shows Off Split-Screen Hunting - New Screens

by Rainier on March 25, 2010 @ 4:04 a.m. PDT

MH Tri, pronounced as "try," is an action RPG series where you hunt down fantastical monsters in natural environments, including underwater aquatic beasts, as well as implementing a split-screen co-op mode and introducing a new Arena fighting mode.

Monster Hunter Tri is one of the most strikingly beautiful games ever created for the Wii and brings to life a living breathing ecosystem where man and monster co-exist. The title’s single player story mode sees gamers taking on the role of a hunter whose village is beset by a series of violent tremors that threaten to destroy it. Charged by the village chief to discover the source of the earthquakes players will embark on a series of quests where they must face gigantic beasts that inhabit both land and sea.

Living the life of a hunter need never be a solitary experience with the option to form a team of up to four hunters via the game’s custom online Wi-Fi mode; alternatively the game also offers a two player split-screen Arena mode. Even solo players do not have to face Monster Hunter Tri’s challenging quests alone as they will be ably accompanied by Cha-Cha, an AI hunting partner whose skills will prove invaluable.

A deep story led single-player mode allows players to immerse themselves into the world of Monster Hunter Tri, during which players will learn the skills required to be a successful hunter. The game will feature more new monsters and new environments, including underwater levels and marine-based monsters, than ever before. There is also the introduction of new weapons such as the powerful Switch Axe to master throughout this unique and exhilarating world.

The list of things to entice gamers is monstrous. Monster Hunter Tri’s beautiful landscapes make this one of the most impressive-looking games on the system. An open-ended, quest-based storyline with multiple routes to progression offers the potential for 100’s of hours in repeat gameplay.

Monster Hunter Tri introduces an awesome new feature to the series: Splitscreen hunting! You're probably wondering how this works. It's very simple to get this going, actually. Just power on a second controller and select "Arena" in the main menu of the game.

You won't have to worry about gear or weapons either. Just select a monster to hunt, and you'll get all sorts of pre-set armors and weapons to choose from. Each of the quests has a time limit and record to beat that earns you exclusive items and rewards for your character to use when you go back to single player or online.

One more cool feature to this is utilizing the Wii-remote as a save device. You can load your character to your Wii-remote, go over to a friends house, load your character, and hunt splitscreen with him using your own hunter!
