'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' (ALL) Launches Metal Gear Online On Consoles

by Rainier on Oct. 6, 2015 @ 8:54 a.m. PDT

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the latest installment in the MGS franchise, powered by the new FOX engine.

Taking place nine years after the events of MGS V: Ground Zeroes and the fall of Mother Base, Snake a.k.a. Big Boss, awakes from a near decade-long coma. The game resumes the story in 1984, with the Cold War still as the backdrop, which continues to shape a global crisis. Snake’s journey takes him into a world where he is driven by a need for revenge and the pursuit of a shadow group, XOF.

With its open-world design, photo realistic visual fidelity and feature-rich game design, MGS V: The Phantom Pain will leave its mark as one of the hallmarks in the gaming industry for its cinematic storytelling, heavy themes, and immersive tactical gameplay.

In addition to the franchise's returning characters, such as Snake, Kazuhira Miller, Ocelot, and Emmerich, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will introduce all new characters to the Metal Gear universe. The storyline will focus on dark themes that portray the ugliness and tragedy of war, as a legendary hero falls from grace.

All PS4/Xbox One version Metal Gear Online servers are now up and running, and a download patch for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is already available. The online component is visible from the main game’s menu, allowing users to experience multiplayer action within the main game’s stunning open world locations.

Metal Gear Online is built around a dedicated squad-based competitive multiplayer structure. Following its inclusion with Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns Of The Patriots for PS3, the mode has been fully redesigned with the familiar gameplay and aesthetic styling of the acclaimed series. The online element introduces Tactical Team Operations and features a ‘class system’ that more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield.

Similarly, as of today, all Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Collector’s Edition content is also available for use within Metal Gear Online. The download codes within the main game’s packaging can now be used, giving users access to the gold WU S, Pistol and AM MRS-4 weapons, an XP Boost and a Metal Gear Rex Helmet. Day One edition owners can also access their XP Boost content.

The PC version of Metal Gear Online remains on course for a January launch.
