'Grip' (ALL) Available On Steam Early Access - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 3, 2016 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Grip is a futuristic combat racing game that has competitors battle across diverse landscapes of distant worlds.

Inspired by the Rollcage games of 1999 and 2000, GRIP is a new IP for a new generation. A return to the hardcore combat racer, bristling with heavy weapons and packing ferocious speed, the game is an intense, sensory feast.  Harnessing the awesome potential of Epic's Unreal Engine 4, GRIP will take you back to your nostalgic past, while simultaneously propelling you into a kick-ass future.

It’s not enough to just cross the finish line first in GRIP, more important is how you got there, and how much destruction you wrought upon your rivals along the way. Weapons and power-ups are now an integral part of the races that you will be taking part in.

After a failed Kickstarter campaign last year, Caged Element promised they would focus their efforts on bringing Grip to Steam Early Access, and the futuristic racer is now available for $15.99.

Early access is a great way for us to connect with gamers, and allow you to help turn GRIP into the type of game you really want to play. Our team can focus purely on development, getting you the best possible version of the game, and as soon as we make changes. With every new version, we'll be taking valuable feedback from the community, of which we will take to heart moving forward. In our forum there will continue to be polls for users to vote on, regarding all aspects of the game. These polls will give great general feedback from the players, in addition to the in-depth discussion on the rest of our forums. With your help, we look forward to creating the best possible version of GRIP there can be!

Our goal is to have the "final" version of GRIP by the end of 2016, though with the right support GRIP will never be final, as we hope to be adding new cars, tracks and possibly pick-ups well into 2017.

“Early access will not have many features at first. Our main goal early on, is perfecting GRIP's core gameplay. We want to make sure the game plays very, very well before we start adding the bulk of the content. Once the vehicle physics, pick-ups, multiplayer functionality and AI are where we need them to be, we'll start to release new content that can change over time depending on feedback from the community.

The full version of GRIP will have 8 cars (4 classes), 12 tracks (4 planets), 10 pick-ups, career mode, arcade mode, arena mode (with arenas), precision mode (with a few tracks), elimination mode, multiplayer (online or local LAN and split-screen), mod tools for custom cars, and (depending on funding moving forward) a track editor so players can build their own courses.

The full game will be rich with features and content, as well as have great tools for users to make their own additions to the game.

Features included in the current version of GRIP are as follows:

  • 1 vehicle (12 skins)
  • 3 Game modes (Race, Arena & Playground)
  • 7 Levels (some WIP)
  • 4 Weapons (Homing missile, machine gun, mine, leader rocket)
  • 2 Power-ups (Shield, Turbo)
  • 7 Ingame music tracks
  • Play single player (against AI) or Split-screen with a friend

Game Features:

  • Hit speeds of up to 700 km/h while driving on floors, walls and ceilings - anything you can get your tyres on to keep the hammer down. And these brutes just want to keep on going, with GRIP's specialised vehicle design and physics, flipping the car over no longer means game over.
  • Race on a variety of planets. From hostile, icy worlds to foreign, non-terrestrial cities, GRIP's locations will be different to anything you've raced through before. With destructible structures around each track to use against your opponents, along with a variety of possible routes, you have to use your wits as well as your skill to win.
  • Choose from a roster of armoured cars, manufactured by different companies from around the galaxy. Each car has different specs - some swift and agile, others brutish and heavily armed. Then go on to customize your ride's appearance and performance with well-earned upgrades.
  • Use an array of power-ups and weapons, ranging from missiles and guns, to laid traps and plasma cannons. We want to create the most bombastic weapons ever seen in a game like this, and with this we welcome input from the community. You help us design them, and we'll bring them to life.
  • Race to a thumping soundtrack including Drum 'n Bass (the music choice of Rollcage) along with Breaks, Techno and Trance. And if somehow you don't like any of those genres, the game can be customized to play any music you like from your own personal library. Your game, experienced your way.
  • Local races + split screen and online races + leaderboards
