Telltale Games Recruits Former Microsoft Narrative Designer Exec

Telltale Games announced the hire of veteran narrative designer Leah Hoyer as the company's new VP of Creative.

"Leah Hoyer brings on board a wealth of narrative experience from the realm of video games and television, and we are thrilled to welcome her into the Telltale fold," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and Co-Founder of Telltale Games. "Leah will be an integral part of our studio's growth strategy in the coming year, expanding our creative development base with the best and the brightest talent as we continue to define exceptional interactive scripted entertainment." 

Before joining Telltale as its VP of Creative, Leah Hoyer was Studio Director in charge of Narrative at ArenaNet, most known for its popular Guild Wars franchise. Prior to that, Leah led the Narrative Design department at Microsoft Studios, where her projects included Xbox One titles Sunset Overdrive, Killer Instinct and Quantum Break. Early in her career, Leah was briefly an attorney before attending UCLA Film School to earn her MFA in Animation. She then served as Director of Development for Disney Television Animation, working on such global hits as Phineas & Ferb, Recess and Kim Possible.

"Telltale remains at the forefront of narrative as a gameplay experience, and I couldn't be more excited to become a part of the team," said Leah Hoyer, VP of Creative at Telltale Games. "I look forward to growing the company's diverse creative capabilities in new ways, beginning with a special narrative design symposium during GDC this coming month." 

As part of her initiative to expand the creative team at Telltale, Leah will be leading a special symposium during GDC. The Telltale Creative Workshop will be held on March 2nd, and is an invite-only event for successful applicants who submitted a text-based interactive story in Twine. The symposium is intended as a way for potential candidates to explore a career in game writing or design at Telltale, and for the company to see talent in action.

Attendees of the workshop will learn from Telltale creatives what it is like to work at the company, and how the studio makes compelling stories for our industry-leading, narrative-driven experiences. They will have the chance to put those learnings into practice as they create a scene of an interactive story, along with the opportunity to pitch their idea, workshop the structure and choice moments, and receive feedback on their work from the award-winning team at Telltale.
