'NBA 2K17' (ALL) Simulates 2016-17 NBA Playoff Season

by Rainier on April 15, 2017 @ 9:58 a.m. PDT

NBA 2K17 is the latest installment in the basketball franchise.

2K announced that retired football player Thierry Henry will be featured in the upcoming NBA 2K17. As in real life, Thierry Henry will be a regular court side star during home games of the San Antonio Spurs.

In NBA 2K17’s Blacktop mode, where you can play different types of basketball games ranging from 1 vs 1 to 5 vs 5, Thierry Henry is available as a playable character, where you can test his skills against the greatest players of all time.

The 2016-2017 NBA Playoffs are here! Over the last few years, we’ve turned to NBA 2K to simulate the playoff bracket which has produced some pretty accurate results. Now with an exciting postseason ahead of us once again, we return to the crystal ball to see what NBA 2K17 predicts will transpire in this year’s playoffs. Let’s get into it!

With so many storylines surrounding the postseason, there were lots of questions: is Boston a legit #1 seed who can make a deep playoff run? Will Kevin Durant prove to be the missing piece which eluded the Warriors last year after their epic 3-1 Finals collapse? Are the defending champion Cavs going to be able to flip the switch for their playoff run? These were just a few questions as the NBA playoffs began.

The West first round saw a sweep with Golden State inching out 4 straight, close games over POR. The Clippers went 7 games with the Jazz, Houston was able to outscore OKC, and the Spurs dissected Memphis to edge them out 4-1.

In the East, Boston went a surprising 7 games against the 8 seed Bulls in a close series many did not see happening. Washington took care of the Hawks 4-2, Toronto swept the Bucks despite close games, and the Cavs defeated the Pacers in 6.

2ND ROUND

In the 2nd round, the Warriors continued their dominance over the LA Clippers, defeating them 4-1 and moving on to the WCFs. Houston battled San Antonio in an epic 7 game series that saw James Harden and the Rockets soaring all the way to the Western Conference Finals to meet Golden State for the 2nd time in three years.

Out east, Boston tried to shake off a grueling first round but the Washington Wizards came in and shot lights out in their series against the #1 seed. They defeated the Celtics 4-2, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.

They'll have their hands full, however, having to face the defending World Champion Cavs as Cleveland eliminated the Raptors yet again in 6 games.

CONFERENCE FINALS – A TALE OF TWO CONFERENCES

The Eastern Conference Finals was a truly epic 7 game series. LeBron, the city of Cleveland, and home court advantage kept the hope alive of Cavs fans everywhere as they battled it out through 7 physical games, heading to their third straight NBA Finals.

In a highly anticipated and high-scoring Western Conference Finals showdown, the Warriors found a way to outduel and outscore the Rockets. The Rockets gave them 5 straight close games but Golden State shots lights out against Houston and advanced 4 games to 1. In fact, some games were in the 120 and 130 scoring range, proving that the only thing that can beat a great offense is in fact, a better offense.

WE MEET AGAIN

It's time for the rubber match. All season long, fans & analysts had anticipated a third straight showdown of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. This rivalry, which has seen both sides winning a championship over the other the past two years, would fittingly come down to a Finals showdown once again.

Kevin Durant joining the Warriors was a big reason why they were back in the Finals, and now was the time to prove this was the right move for himself and the Warriors.

On the other side, a battle-tested and focused Cavs team was set to defend what they earned last season.

And so, we had a date with destiny…

In the end, it would come down to Game 7 for a second straight year. SEVEN straight games of physicality. In the end however, there could only be one… and the Golden State Warriors inched past the Cavs in Game 7, fittingly, on their home court – which they failed to do a year ago.

The Golden State Warriors defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-3, earning redemption from a year ago.

NBA 2K17 has spoken, now we prepare for the real thing. If this playoff sim has taught us anything the past few years, it’s that NBA 2K spits out some pretty accurate results. Now we ask you, do you agree with this playoff sim? Let us know. And let’s tip off for another exciting post-season of NBA playoff basketball!
