Take-Two Acquires 'Kerbal Space Program' IP

by Rainier on May 31, 2017 @ 8:58 a.m. PDT

Create your own spacecraft, launch it into space to explore the galaxy, and visit a vast amount of planets; assuming you can get it off the ground!

KSP puts you in charge of the recently launched space program for a fun & clever alien race – the Kerbals. These little guys are counting on you to build spaceships, rockets and vehicles that can take them on fun space travel missions, without hurting them in the process… You’ll have a collection of parts & tools to accomplish this, each one with unique functions that will affect your ship and its chances of taking off or crashing spectacularly.

Once you've made it to deep space, KSP lets you capture asteroids, launch mining programs to find resources across the furthest reaches of the solar system and build space stations around planets you discover.

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, where you’re free to build anything your imagination can come up with; Science Mode lets you perform scientific experiments and advance the knowledge of the Kerbals to unlock new technologies; and Career Mode, where you control every aspect of the space program, including crew management, reputation building, as well as embarking on side missions called “contracts” to earn funds and upgrade your space center facilities (or repair them).

Moving on to deep space, KSP lets you capture asteroids (in-game mission designed in collaboration with NASA), launch mining programs to find resources across the furthest reaches of the solar system and build space stations in all the planets you discover. It all adds up to this award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

The acquisition of Kerbal Space Program further diversifies Take-Two’s industry-leading portfolio of owned intellectual property. The current team at Squad will continue to provide support and ongoing development for the title through game updates and expansions, including the previously announced Kerbal Space Program: Making History Expansion, which is expected to launch later this calendar year.

“We have been impressed with Kerbal Space Program since its launch, and we are committed to grow this unique experience while continuing to support its passionate community,” said Michael Worosz, SVP, Head of Corporate Development and Independent Publishing at Take-Two. “We view Kerbal Space Program as a new, long-term franchise that adds a well-respected and beloved IP to Take-Two’s portfolio as we continue to explore opportunities across the independent development landscape.”

The forthcoming Kerbal Space Program: Making History Expansion for PC adds exciting new content to the base game, including the Mission Builder and History Pack. Mission Builder enables players to create and edit missions that can be shared with the community. History Pack challenges players to re-live historical missions from humankind’s own space history, complete with a unique Kerbal Space Program twist.
