'Space Hulk: Deathwing' (ALL) Update Adds Special Missions Mode, Customization Coming

by Rainier on June 14, 2017 @ 2:34 p.m. PDT

Space Hulk: Deathwing offers players the chance to experience a desperate battle against Genestealers in the claustrophobic tunnels of a Space Hulk, as they will gain skills, new abilities and new equipment thanks to experience earned during perilous missions.

The Genestealers represent a serious threat even for a squad of Terminators, but they are just the vanguard of the forces players will fight inside the Space Hulk. From Genestealer Hybrids equipped with heavy weapons, through many sub-species of Genestealers, to huge Bloodlords, the enemies of the Deathwing are varied, versatile, and terrifying.

Space Hulk: Deathwing™ is a First-Person Shooter experience of Games Workshop’s classic Space Hulk boardgame set in the universe of Warhammer 40,000, developed on Unreal Engine 4.

Each Space Hulk is an amalgamation of ancient ships and space debris, and Olethros is filled with lore from the 10,000 years since the dawn of the Imperium to the 41st Millennium. You will be exploring Black Templar ships, troop transports, and even pirate vessels that were lost in the Warp and became part of the Space Hulk OIethros' bowels. Streum On Studios made sure that every inch of the colossal ships, each corridor and each room, contains highly detailed designs, unique architectural styles, and references to Warhammer 40,000 history.

Space Hulk: Deathwing, the FPS from Streum On Studio set in the Warhammer 40K universe, continues its series of free content patches today with the Return to Olethros update. These updates are building to the launch of the Enhanced Edition on PC and consoles in Q4 2017, with all content provided free for existing and future owners of Space Hulk: Deathwing on PC.

Today’s Return to Olethros update brings the Special Missions mode to every Chapter in the game, in both solo and multiplayer. This mode generates randomized objectives and enemy spawns, bringing a new level of uncertainty and replayability for even the most seasoned squads of Space Hulk veterans.

More information about the Class Customisation system was revealed that will be making its way to the Enhanced Edition. After completing a Chapter (in solo Special Missions or multiplayer), players will gain XP that contributes to earning Loot Reclusiam. These can be opened in order to gain a class-specific customisation item, as well as in-game currency to spend on unlocking individual items.

These items include:

  • Armour skins and Runes – Skins give each Class a variety of striking looks, while Runes grant various passive gameplay effects, which can mixed and matched.
  • Weapon skins and Attachments - including bayonets, decals, enhanced scopes, cannon barrels, and more that affect both gameplay and weapon appearances.
  • Class Perks – offering unique, powerful passives for every class that give even more playstyle options.
  • Banners – players can show their commitment to the Emperor’s glory, by proudly placing one of a number of banners on the battlefield.

All aspects of the Loot Reclusiam and Class Customisation are earned entirely in-game, with no microtransactions.

More upcoming features and additions will be revealed as the Enhanced Edition’s release draws closer.

Space Hulks drift along the currents of the Warp, the immaterial dimension of Chaos. Made up of gigantic mangled asteroids, derelict ship wrecks and other spatial debris, they sometimes grow to the size of a moon and often contain treasured and ancient lost technologies. However, they are ripe with danger including infestations of the lethal Genestealers.

Players take on the role of a Space Marine from one of the most secret and most feared Space Marine Companies: the Deathwing from the Dark Angels. Strap on your Terminator armour and equip the emblematic weaponry of the Space Marines to overcome the threats awaiting you in the Space Hulk. As a Librarian, you will also master the destructive powers of the Psykers. Your skills and performance in battle grant you Fervor Points, to spend on 4 skill trees allowing you to improve your abilities, unlock new powers, access powerful relics and devastating new weapons.
