The Pillars of the Earth is a 2-D point-and-click adventure video game adaptation based on Ken Follett's best-selling novel.

This is the first official Ken Follett videogame to be developed. It will revolve around the story of Follett’s best-selling novel The Pillars of the Earth, published in 1989. At the same time, Ken Follett is also working on a new novel, which is scheduled to be published in fall 2017, and will be taking readers back to the fictitious medieval town of Kingsbridge in South England.

Set in 12th century England, a time of great poverty and war, “The Pillars of the Earth” takes place in the fictional town of Kingsbridge as it begins the construction of a Cathedral to assure wealth and security for its people. Philip, a monk, becomes the prior of Kingsbridge abbey. Jack, an ambitious architect, is commissioned to build the village cathedral. Aliena and her younger brother Richard, have to survive on their own; after their father, the Earl of Shiring, is incarcerated and murdered. Meanwhile, Prior Philip's rivals, Bishop Waleran and William Hamleigh, a vengeful noble rejected by Aliena, see the town and its rise to importance as a thorn in their flesh. They want to see Kingsbridge burn.

Based on Ken Follett’s best-selling novels of the same name, The Pillars of the Earth brings the renowned 1200-pages historical novel to life with full voiceover in English and German (including a special cameo from Ken Follett himself), an orchestrated soundtrack and a vivid, intricate art style that includes over 200 hand-painted backgrounds. Fans of the books and newcomers alike will delight in guiding three playable characters through the 30-year tale, influencing and even changing the outcome of the original books with their decision-making. Separated into three episodic ‘books’, chapter one of the adventure will be available immediately when the title launches, with the remaining two chapters delivered as free updates at a later date.

Kalypso Media will be releasing the physical retail edition of Daedalic Entertainment’s animated new interactive novel The Pillars of the Earth for Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One in international export territories.

The physical retail version of Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth launches on Windows PC, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One across North America and Brazil on October 17, 2017. It will also be released in the UK, Ireland, Nordics, South Africa, Portugal, Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Greece, Baltics, Eastern Europe (excluding Poland), Benelux, Italy and France on September 22, 2017.
