'Divinity: Original Sin II' (ALL) Update Will Add The Dark Eye Campaign To Game Master Mode This Week

by Rainier on Nov. 19, 2018 @ 11:02 a.m. PST

Divinity: Original Sin II is a top-down, party-based action/RPG featuring cooperative multiplayer, turn-based combat, a strong focus on systematic gameplay and a well-grounded narrative.

Divinity: Original Sin II promises a darker and more expansive story than its predecessor. Set a thousand years after the original, Divinity: Original Sin 2 puts players in the role of a renegade user of forbidden magic. Our heroes will decide who will be the next god of Rivellon and what that god will do with its powers.

Divinity: Original Sin II features five playable races and a new tag system that lets players shape the background and motivations of their characters, from noble elven cannibals to swarthy dwarven outlaws. Each choice you make shapes the world, impacting how you complete quests, solve problems, and build relationships - go anywhere, take anything, and kill anyone, but be careful of the repercussions!

Divinity: Original Sin II breaks new ground in what players expect from role playing in their RPGs, featuring 4-player co-op through which players can compete or cooperate to reach their goals. The new relationship system provides more nuance to character interactions, as individuals will have their own objectives and priorities based on their background and race. Whether you choose to balance your party’s individual goals for the greater good or fight to make sure you always get your way, character relationships play a major role in determining how players advance through the world.

Tactical combat returns in Divinity: Original Sin II, with even more elemental interactions and powerful skills opening up new strategic considerations. Divinity: Original Sin 2 introduces a new spellcrafting system that lets players combine spells to create powerful and unexpected results. New combat skills give the less magically-inclined plenty of strategic options to influence the fight. Also, for the first time in a Divinity RPG, it is possible to challenge other players to PvP combat in demanding arena battles.

Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition is receiving a special update that includes an exclusive GM campaign for Game Master mode.

Larian Studios has joined forces with Ulisses Spiele, creators of the hugely successful Dark Eye tabletop RPG, to bring Divinity players into a new world of magic and mystery. Written and designed by Ulisses, with cooperation from Larian developers, the Prison of Shadow GM campaign brings a comprehensive set of the tools that will allow every Game Master and their team to dive into the thrilling and dangerous world of The Dark Eye.

Prison of Shadows is a brand new adventure suitable for Dark Eye newcomers and veterans alike, designed for a Game Master and 3-5 players. In the adventure, heroes enter an abandoned dwarven city in search of a dangerous artifact. There, they will fight a desperate battle against cultists of the Nameless God.

Revisiting The Dark Eye setting takes Larian back to its roots in tabletop roleplaying, which has always been at the heart of the studio’s design philosophies. Developing the Prison of Shadows adventure involved bringing the past to life, and a camera crew was on hand to document the process. Their final footage, delivered to Larian in an envelope sealed with an unknown arcane symbol, can be seen below.

This Game Master adventure will be automatically included in the Divinity: Original Sin II Steam update on 21st November 2018, and is designed for both new and experienced Game Masters and their parties.

Divinity: Original Sin II’s innovative Game Master Mode bridges the gap between the creativity and improvisation of a tabletop role-playing campaign, and the immersion of a computer RPG. This system was created with a single goal; to empower the Game Master so they can tell great stories and lead up to four players through a world of their own creation.

Prison of Shadows will be streamed live on the 21st of November, at 7pm CET, on the official Larian Studios Twitch channel and Steam. During the stream, hosted by developers from Larian Studios, fans will be able to chat and ask questions about the Divinity: Original Sin 2, Game Master Mode, and The Dark Eye.

With Divinity: Original Sin II, Larian Studios aims to change the way we think about narrative in RPGs, creating a world in which your history and actions shape the story, and NPCs react differently to each character.

In addition to a powerful system of classless character development, your origins and deeds will shape NPCs’ behaviors and attitudes. Your race, birthplace, and greatest feats all play a role in your journey, but watch out, as a reputation as a Traitor or Swindler can be hard to shake.

An epic RPG with turn-based combat, Divinity: Original Sin II can be played as both a single-player and multiplayer game for up to four players with both cooperative and competitive questing.

Switch seamlessly between cooperative and competitive play throughout the entire story. Work together with your companions as one, persuade NPCs to thwart your opponents, and beware of backstabbing allies. Or, put your own goals above that of the party, and plan the moment you’ll betray them all. It’s up to you.

Divinity: Original Sin II is available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
