'BattleTech' Story Detailed, Pre-Order Gets You Free Shadowrun Returns - Trailer

by Rainier on April 11, 2018 @ 11:43 a.m. PDT

Steeped in the feudal political intrigue of the BattleTech universe, the game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG, Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics.

Led by Jordan Weisman, creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, Mitch Gitelman, Producer of the MechCommander series, and Mike McCain, Creative Director of the Shadowrun series.

Set in the year 3025, the universe is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by militarized noble houses utilizing huge, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Players will take command of their own Mercenary outfit, struggling to stay afloat as they find themselves drawn into a bloody interstellar civil war. BattleTech features explosive tactical `Mech combat, deep Mercenary management gameplay, a rewarding story campaign, and addictive PvP multiplayer.

BattleTech is a dynamic science fiction setting that spans centuries. It is also a shared universe that has evolved over 30 years, in tabletop miniatures games and sourcebooks, along with a series of over two hundred novels, comics, and dozens of computer games.

Pre-order BattleTech on GOG.com and get Shadowrun Returns for free.

Pre-purchase receive the BattleTech: Shadowhawk Pack which includes an alternate skin for the formidable Shadowhawk 'Mech plus an exclusive wallpaper, to be delivered at launch.

BattleTech is Game of Thrones meets Pacific Rim in space,” said Mitch Gitelman, studio manager at Harebrained Schemes. “[Kamea] hires you to do the types of jobs that her standing army can’t do.”

“That is within the context of your larger campaign, of reputation building and working for all the different houses… It’s a wonderful way to get a true, classic  BattleTech story,” said Jordan Weisman, CEO of Harebrained Schemes and creator the MechWarrior and BattleTech  universe. “This really opens it up for the player to extend their own story of their mercenary unit, in whichever direction they want to go.”

“It’s knights and nobility, except instead of knights, it’s giant war machines,” said Mike McCain, game director of BattleTech.

BattleTech will be available on April 24, 2018 for Windows PC and Mac.
