'It Lurks Below' Available On Steam Early Access - Screens & Trailer

Inspired by Terraria and Minecraft, It Lurks Below brings revolutionary RPG mechanics, all with a delightfully indie/retro aesthetic.

It Lurks Below is a retro-styled, 2D, action-oriented, survival RPG by David Brevik. Create a custom character and choose from several different classes to delve deep into the mysteries of what evil lurks below. Dig down and explore the randomly generated levels, find random items, and combat deadly monsters to get the answers.

Though this game looks similar to other games in the genre, it plays very differently. It is a true RPG, with many stats and character classes. It is very reminiscent of other games made by David Brevik such as Diablo, Diablo II, Hellgate: London and Marvel Heroes. With six character classes to choose from, randomly generated levels, random stats on items, secret areas, bosses, a survival talent tree and three different play modes, it delivers on a very different and unique gaming experience.

It Lurks Below, developed entirely by Diablo creator David Brevik, is now available for purchase as part of Steam’s Early Access program for $19.99.

“At the Game Developers Conference last month, I talked to a lot of indie developers who recommended doing Early Access through Steam – they basically said I’d be crazy not to do it,” says Brevik, whose last major launch was Marvel Heroes in 2013 when he led Gazillion Entertainment.

“I’m flattered by the overwhelmingly positive response to the closed betas and my personal streams of It Lurks Below so far,” he says. “I read every piece of feedback I receive, and I value any additional thoughts players may have before I finalize the game for its official release. Which of course is…‘Soon.’”

Scheduled streams from Brevik include the following:

  • Today, April 24: 11:00 a.m. PDT until 1:00 p.m. PDT
  • Tomorrow, April 25: 9:00 p.m. PDT until he feels like stopping
