'Code of Princess EX' (Switch) Gets Release Date - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on May 17, 2018 @ 3:07 p.m. PDT

Code of Princess EX remains true to the classic action RPG, while introducing HD graphics, a local co-op option and numerous other gameplay additions and enhancements.

The main storyline in Code of Princess EX focuses on Princess Solange of DeLuxia, who is thrust into the role of guardian and protector of the legendary sword DeLuxcalibur after her family’s castle is overtaken by a siege of rampaging monsters. Venturing out beyond the castle walls, she soon discovers that the monster onslaught has blanketed the entire kingdom with terror and oppression.

As she fights to restore order, Solange selectively recruits a diverse team of powerful and agile combatants in an attempt to bring peace to the land. By the end of their journey, players will have accumulated a cast of over 50 different playable characters, each of whom can be leveled up to enhance their abilities in six different categories.

Journeying back to an acclaimed cult hit, Code of Princess EX is an updated remake of the classic Nintendo 3DS “hack-and-slash” action game that features role-playing game (RPG) elements. Code of Princess EX's introduces higher-resolution art, a local (two-player) co-op option for the entire Campaign Mode and numerous other gameplay additions and enhancements including smarter AI, updated balancing, a new character leveling-up system and overall better playability.

Code of Princess EX looks and plays like a long-awaited spiritual successor to Guardian Heroes, the fan-favorite beat-’em-up RPG. It pays homage to all the best elements from its inspiration (the varied cast of characters, the pseudo-medieval setting, the combat that takes place on three distinct “planes”) and expands its appeal with HD graphics, powerful combos, lock-on and “burst” attacks and a variety of local and online multiplayer modes.

Code of Princess EX is making its final preparations for battle and will release digitally and physically across North America and Europe on July 31, 2018 on Nintendo Switch.

Key Features:

  • Action-packed “hack-and-slash” gameplay featuring customizable RPG elements.
  • Players can freely move between three different planes of action during combat, with some projectile attacks able to travel between planes.
  • Various fighting combos, lock-on and burst systems increase the damage dealt to enemies.
  • Over 50 different characters are playable throughout multiple game modes, including Campaign, Free Play and Bonus Quests.
  • RPG stats let players decide how their characters will develop and proceed through the journey.
  • Cooperative and competitive local/online multiplayer modes include leaderboards and let players track their coveted “Princess Points.”
  • Created by former members of the original Guardian Heroes development team.
  • Characters and worlds created by legendary Capcom artist Kinu Nishimura, with art contributions from Street Fighter artist Bengus.

Code of Princess EX was developed in Japan by Studio Saizensen (Blade Strangers) in collaboration with Kinu Nishimura (longtime Street Fighter artist), Tetsuhiko Kikuchi (Guardian Heroes director/character designer) and Masaki Ukyo (Guardian Heroes lead programmer). Former Capcom artist Bengus (a.k.a. Gouda Cheese) also contributed to the in-game artwork.

The launch edition of the retail version will include a full-color instruction booklet and a bonus mystery item that will be revealed soon.

Code of Princess EX will release digitally and physically across North America and Europe starting July 31, 2018 on Nintendo Switch for $39.99 MSRP.
