'Mario Tennis Aces' (Switch) Free Pre-launch Online Tournament Kicks Off Today

by Rainier on June 1, 2018 @ 3:50 a.m. PDT

Mario Tennis Aces brings a new level of skill and competition to Nintendo Switch as Mario steps onto the court in classy tennis garb for intense rallies against a variety of characters in full-blown tennis battles.

New wrinkles in tennis gameplay will challenge your ability to read an opponent's position and stroke to determine which shot will give you the advantage. Unleash an arsenal of shots and strategies in all-out tennis battles with friends, family and fan-favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters.

And this time the game adds the first story mode since the Mario Tennis game on Game Boy Advance, offering a new flavor of tennis gameplay, with a variety of missions, boss battles and more.

The intuitive and deep gameplay allows for exciting competitions in the living room or, really, anywhere using the power of Nintendo Switch. In Swing Mode, players can use their Joy-Con controllers like a tennis racket, swinging them to initiate the tennis swings in the game.

As announced last month, Mario Tennis Aces has launched its pre-launch tournament

From June 1 (6:00 p.m. PDT) to June 3 ( 11:59 p.m. PDT), you can hop online to participate in the free pre-launch tournament for Mario Tennis Aces. This will give you plenty of time to practice your Trick Shots before the game launches for Nintendo Switch on June 22.

To access the tournament, just download the free beta from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, join the tournament between June 1 and June 3, select between four main playable characters (Mario, Peach, Yoshi or Bowser) and compete in a series of online multiplayer matches. The winners of each match will earn points based on their performance, with five additional characters to unlock by gaining enough points. (We’ll let you discover who these characters are for yourself as you advance through the demo.)

Even if you don’t want to participate in the tournament proper, you can still try out the game offline and get in some practice playing on-off single-player battles against a computer-controlled opponent.

Regardless of whether you play online or offline, by playing the demo you can unlock Mario’s classic outfit in the full game once it launches on June 22.

The free pre-launch tournament is open from 6 p.m. PT on June 1 to 11:59 p.m. PT on June 3.

With up to four-player local (additional accessories may be required and are sold separately) and online multiplayer, and a story mode that even includes creative boss battles, Mario Tennis Aces is one of the most robust Mario sports games yet.

More details will be revealed in the future, but a free Mario Tennis Aces demo is coming soon. For a limited time, players can try out online tournament matches in the game before it launches. To participate, players just have to download the Pre-launch Online Tournament in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

Mario Tennis Aces launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on June 22.
