'Sigma Theory: Great Cold War' Gets Large Closed Beta Update, Community Contest

by Rainier on March 1, 2019 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Sigma Theory: Great Cold War is a single-player near-future espionage strategy game that takes place during a new cold war.

Sigma Theory allows players to set up their own intelligence agency, recruit elite spies, and bribe, seduce and assassinate their way to world domination. How far will you go to control the future?

In the turn-based single player Sigma Theory, the world is plunged into a new global cold war after the discovery of a groundbreaking scientific discovery that will radically change humanity’s destiny. Players take charge of their own agency - staffing it with their best, brightest and most ruthless - in order to get their chosen nation ahead in a deadly conflict that is fought in the shadows. Heavily inspired by real-life events; and shaped by the hands-on intelligence experience of the developers who previously created the award-winning Out There, Sigma Theory allows for a fascinating glimpse into a near-future that is closer to reality than many would think.

Not only the elite agents, but cutting-edge technology will also play an important role in Sigma Theory. From drone fleets to hacking, players will have to use all the tools at their disposal to eliminate hostile agents and to protect their own. Players will send their spies on a variety of missions across the globe: to gather intel, cooperate with armed groups, engage in high-level diplomacy, steal crucial tech, recruit new scientists or forcibly extract them if they refuse to go willingly. A mix of tactical and strategic turn-based gameplay, Sigma Theory’s dynamic story will change depending on the player’s choices, allowing for multiple distinct endings.

It’s a cold war out there, one in which mankind must face up to its future.

Mi-Clos Studio has released a large update for the closed beta of its upcoming single player spy strategy game Sigma Theory: Global Cold War.

To celebrate the day, a special Sigma Theory community contest has also been launched, asking fans to imagine an in-game version of the current President of the United States, Donald Trump; including all the “admirable qualities” he would have as one of the in-game nation representatives to come. The creators of the funniest mock-ups will be declared winners, have their portraits featured in the game and will receive a game pack - featuring a game key and a T-Shirt.

The update will bring a host of new and updated features to the closed beta in the lead-up to the official launch on April 18th. This includes community-requested new counter-espionage mechanics, interrogation options and a faction quest system, as well as a large amount of new agents and visual polish.

Sigma Theory Beta Update 0.12 patch note

New Features

Counterespionage
The first iteration of counterespionage was too passive and required to anchor one (or more) of your agents in your country. We’ve added new mechanics so you can be more proactive to prevent spy activities on your soil while using all your agents abroad.
Your counterespionage service will send a notification everytime a suspicious agent lands in your country. From there, you’ll have a limited time to send an agent back home to counter the enemy before they leave your country with a scientist.
There’s even the possibility to capture a spy for interrogation, see below.

Interrogation
When a spy is captured, they will be at your disposal for interrogation. This is a new feature that works a little bit like the diplomatic meeting. It’s quite different though, as the prisoner has a Will level and Health level. Your goal is lowering their Will level while keeping their Health level high to prevent death. Use interrogation and torture options to get intel.

Once you have everything you need, you can trade the prisoner during Diplomatic Meetings.
