'Space Junkies' (ALL) Free Content Update Adds New Mode, Map And Characters

by Rainier on April 24, 2019 @ 9:20 a.m. PDT

Space Junkies is a jetpack-fueled VR arcade shooter where you fly through deadly space arenas to face off in extreme battles.

Space Junkies pits players in 1-vs.-1 or 2-vs.-2 combat inside the Dirty Bowl, a collection of space arenas that dynamically respond to players' actions and allow them to navigate and attack from any direction. The game features an arsenal of outlandish, customizable, joinable and – thanks to the Oculus Touch and Vive controllers – grab-able weapons that let players alter their assault tactics to take down their opponents.

Space Junkies is powered by Brigitte, a new proprietary virtual reality engine created at Ubisoft Montpellier.

Brigitte is designed to evolve and adapt to the way worlds can be created for VR, as well as including the new VR interfaces in the development process and map creations.

first free post-launch update for Space Junkies is now available on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

This new update, Season #1 Episode 1, introduces a variety of new content and features based on players’ feedback:

  • A new game mode, “Final Cut”, in which players are given one weapon at a time. After each kill, they climb the weapon ladder and have to get a new kill to progress to the final weapon, the Double Solar Sword!
  • A new map, “The Orbital Mine.” This abandoned mine is full rocks, pipes and tunnels that will have you going vertical and running for cover as the lava flows!
  • A new character skin from the Quantic Calamari family, known as the “Squid
  • A new set of customizations

Space Junkies is continuing to introduce regular new content through updates in the coming months, including new game modes, characters, maps, and many more surprises. New content will drop through a season-based approach, each season containing four episodes for a period of 16 weeks. The next content update, Season #1 Episode 2, is set to release in May. PlayStation Move and smooth rotation support will also be introduced mid-May in a special update.

Additionally, starting on April 26 for a limited time, Space Junkies will be 60 percent off across all digital stores.

Key Features:

  • The Dirty Bowl: If you thought space was hostile before, just wait until you play in the Dirty Bowl! Death comes fast and hard from all directions as you speed and fight through Orbital Arenas (Orenas) designed specifically to kill, and built to thrill.
  • Adrenaline-Packed Multiplayer: You are now part of an elite tribe of gunslinging Spacers who battle it out in treacherous 2v2 and 1v1 battles.
  • Get to Know Your Body: A full VR experience allows you to use your hands and body to manipulate your environment and weapons intuitively, while full use of motion controllers brings you right into the gunslinging action.
  • Full VR Navigation in Space: Dodge, weave, and fly through hostile space environments and 360-degree orbital battlefields. Situational awareness gets vertical as opponents come at you fast, hard, up, down, sideways, and backward.
  • Weapon Variety is the Spice of ... Death: Insane weapons, from sunblasters to bioguns, let you use different angles and both of your hands to combine your weapons of choice when stalking and taking down your opponents.
  • 360-Degree Sound: Spatial audio will have you fully immersed in an explosive environment.
  • Out Of This World: The weird and wonderful physics of micro-gravity create your virtual playground. From chain reactions and dynamic lighting to breakable environments, your battleground will morph based on your input.
