'SpellForce III: Soul Harvest' Gets Release Date - Trailer

by Rainier on May 15, 2019 @ 8:18 a.m. PDT

SpellForce III: Soul Harvest blends the best of real-time strategy and role-playing game genres with a rich, deep backstory, and adds a new campaign, two new races, and units.

The action takes place prior to the events in “SpellForce: The Order of Dawn”, and this “prequel” immerses players in the lush and luxuriant fantasy world of Eo.

Similar to its successful predecessors, players create their hero from scratch and can then develop the hero’s skills during the campaign, complete quests, explore the game world and join forces with up to three characters to form a group of heroes.

The map in SpellForce III is divided into different sectors. The player’s base won’t grow arbitrarily, but always organically. Concretely, this means that the player can only conquer sectors, which are connected to the base or other, already conquered, sectors. This is important, because there is no “Global Economy”, but the distribution of resources will happen mechanically (resources are being transported via carts). The player can decide which raw materials he wants to collect, distribute and export in each sector and must therefore carefully plan where to build the sectors.

If, for example, the player defeats all the enemies in a particular sector and the bandit camp is captured, he can establish an outpost in this area. The player can then construct buildings in the sectors, exploit raw materials (wood, stone, food, etc.), transport goods and produce resources to then recruit new fighting units. Each outpost has a set number of workers who can be hired, so a core element of the game is to balance the sector economy and manage the sector to ensure the most efficient deployment of the available workers.

We don’t want to ignore the RPG component and want players to have the best gaming experience possible with SpellForce III, so the micro management is not as hectic and fast-paced as in many other RTS games. Players can therefore enjoy both gameplay genres (RTS and RPG) in equal measure.

The most magnificent of all fantasy races is now ready to march on it’s short legs into the world of Eo.

With the new expansion Soul Harvest, RTS/RPG SpellForce III expands it’s roster of races to five. In the shadow of the glorious dwarvish armies, the Dark Elves are also coming to the game.

Three years after the Purity Wars, Nortander is on the cusp of a new era. However, things aren't as peaceful as they seem - when the Queen calls you, a disgraced General, back to your homeland, you're plunged in a war on many fronts: While a hatemonger threatens to tear apart the Dwarven realm, an enigmatic cult of Dark Elves harvests the souls of people for reasons unknown. Gather your allies and prevent a catastrophe!

Sending the player on a full new epic campaign with over 20 hours of gameplay, Soul Harvest has even more features – all five factions will gain new units, flying units! Also there are new game modes and some of the game’s core systems has been completely overhauled, as the sector-based resource system for example.

SpellForce III: Soul Harvest will launch on May 28, 2019 for $24.99 | £19.99 | €24.99, and will be available as a stand-alone expansion on PC. So you can chose to have the full SpellForce-III-Experience or to focus on Dwarves & Dark Elves instead.
