'Spaceland' Introduces Monster Menagerie - Screens

by Rainier on July 15, 2019 @ 8:07 a.m. PDT

Spaceland is a sci-fi tactical RPG that has you taking on the roles of various members of a futuristic kill team — dropping into alien bases and doing away with threats in a fast-paced reworking of the traditional Tactical RPG formula.

In Spaceland, battles are quick, with no time wasted deciding on character costumes, load-outs, and other nitty-gritty details, as each character is already kitted for battle and raring for action. As these are heroic adventurers, players won’t lose time on recovering from missed shots, rather, the focus is on skilled team member placement for the best line of sight and optimal shots with their equipped weaponry. Speed and smart unit placement is the order of the day in this streamlined take on classic tactical RPGs!

Spaceland is the latest creation from Tortuga Team, the developers behind the successful multiplatform fantasy tactical RPG series — Braveland. The game drops players into the boots of a tough-as-nails tactical team of Space Rangers Lead as they explore an alien world and defeat its vicious denizens in turn-based combat. Shoot, kick, hide, blast, crush — do whatever you can to outsmart and defeat the alien menace!

In the classic traditions of the science-fiction genre, you’ll be tasked with gathering a team of fighters to unravel secrets of the mystical planet your valiant team has landed on. Rich dialogues will reveal the true colors of your teammates, and if you’re lucky, you’ll uncover special details of their individual backstories.

With alien worlds come alien threats, and below are just a few of those you'll encounter in Spaceland.

In the new overview, you can learn more about monsters like the Creeper, Roach, and the big bad Bronton. Each alien species has distinct combat tactics and abilities, challenging players’ tactical skills as they make the best use of cover, line-of-sight, and good old fashioned firepower to take down these fearsome foes.

Classification : Roach
Features: Chitin armor, push/knockdown ability

The roaches of Spaceland are similar to their Earth-bound cousins in that they are covered with a durable chitinous shell that can take a lot of damage. These roaches also possess an unstoppable desire to knock down anything in their path with a powerful push ability. Roaches are both hostile and very territorial and should be avoided whenever encountered.

Classification : Creeper
Features: Varies by Type

The Creepers’ origin is unknown, but they can be found throughout the bases on the alien world. Creepers come in various sizes and types, and offer different levels of danger based on their type.

The Small Creeper is a very nimble creature with sharp blades on its upper limbs. Why it evolved these nasty blades — one can only guess, but they perfectly pierce man-made battle armor, which means you should maintain your distance and attack Small Creepers with ranged weapons, as close-combat will only end poorly for the human combatant.

The Medium Creeper is a heat-loving horror that can dig tunnels to move about the planet’s surface. Following a Medium Creeper through its tunnels is not a good idea. With a powerful jump, this beast can traverse significant distances and make itself a real threat.

The Red Creeper is the most mysterious of the Creeper species. Why does he have crystals in his skin, what do they do and how did they get there — nobody knows. Some suggest that it is the product of human influence, others argue that it has always been like that. The increased toughness of this beast is unlikely to please those looking for a quick kill.

Classification : Redback Shooter
Features: Intelligent, able to use handheld weaponry

The Redback Shooter is an intelligent monster of mysterious origin. It can handle weapons with the skills of a trained soldier, and to make things worse — it is almost always aggressive. Nothing is known of the Redback’s creation or history, save to say, avoid at all costs.

Classification : Bronton
Features : Heavy armor, slow

The Bronton is believed to have been brought to the ice world by human settlers and somehow mutated over time. Originally a modestly-sized tortoise-like creature, the Bronton in its current state is now a powerful, almost unkillable, beast that has no issue attacking humans. The only way to permanently stop a Bronton is to shoot it in the back, where its armor is thinnest.

Key Features:

  • We’re Going Old-School: Inspired by classics of the genre such as XCOM, Laser Squad, and Incubation, Spaceland turns up the heat on the battlefield by offering a playstyle that is familiar, yet uniquely exciting.
  • Quick N’ Fun: Fast and furious battles focus on the action and only take 10-15 minutes. Planning is good, but blasting is better!
  • Packing the Heat: Equip your team with futuristic weapons such as Dash Thrusters, Grenades, Teleporters, Mines, Power Shields, and much more! Scavenge surroundings for equipment and ammo in a hostile environment with scarce resources.
  • Explore and Exterminate: Discover the secrets of alien bases as you explore them, unlocking new data and expanding your digital encyclopedia of alien info — all of which will help you annihilate them with ease!
  • A Beast for Every Occasion: Fight for your life against alien lifeforms that feature speed, strength, armor, and more — all challenging your tactical mettle as you figure out the best way to defeat each type

Spaceland is coming to PC in Q3 2019.
