'Disco Elysium' (ALL) Update Adds Hardcore Mode, Widescreen Support

by Rainier on Jan. 23, 2020 @ 11:07 a.m. PST

Disco Elysium is a blend of isometric RPG and hard-boiled cop show set in a unique urban fantasy world.

What kind of cop are you? Good cop? Bad cop? Utter failure? That is the question explored in Disco Elysium.

You play a disgraced lieutenant detective in Revachol West, a shore town where corruption’s out of control, murders go unsolved, and the kids just wanna dance. Kick in doors, interrogate suspects, or get lost exploring a gorgeously rendered city and unraveling its mysteries. All the while, tensions rise around you as Revachol threatens to explode.

Disco Elysium’s completely original skill system makes your innermost feelings, doubts, and memories an integral part of every conversation. Level up your rational faculties, sharpen your wits, or give in to your basest instincts. What kind of cop you are is up to you.

ZA/UM announced that Disco Elysium has been updated to include an extreme Hardcore Mode and is now available to play on Steam with widescreen support.

In addition to Hardcore mode, Disco Elysium now has 20% off the main game, as well as 20% off the DLC, which includes the game Soundtrack and Artbook as part of the Steam Lunar New Year sale.

What’s new in Hardcore Mode?

  • You will fail more - The difficulty of every Check goes up, bringing down your chances of success. Solving this case without being a Total Disaster Cop is even harder than normal.
  • You’re going to be poorer - You’ll have even less money, meaning there's less for you to pick up. Better get used to picking up every scrap you can find...
  • Prices have gone up – Pharmaceutical prices have gone up, which means failing costs you even more and they don’t heal you as much.
  • You’ll need to turn to the hard stuff – Booze and cigarettes are going to help you a lot, sweet ciggys clearing your head and extra drink to build courage will become more of a necessity on this playthrough.
  • Most treasured possessions – The few possessions you do have become more important, make sure to treasure what you have!
  • You’ll have to think more carefully – The Thought Cabinet debuffs are more painful when you’re already liable to fail. One the flip side, the bonuses thoughts offer might push you down paths you wouldn’t otherwise take.
  • You’ll level up faster – Failing builds character. You’ll gain extra token amounts of XP every time you finish a task and you’ll level faster and higher, if only marginally.

Game Features:

  • A massive, open-ended case you can solve however you choose.
  • An utterly unique urban fantasy setting where bell-bottoms meet muzzle-loaders.
  • Set-piece combat sequences you can avoid or dive into at your peril.
  • A character system that lets you build your own cop persona with 24 colorful, psychological skills.
  • Ditch your cop uniform for real disco threads to impress, intimidate, or seduce.
  • An inventory of your thoughts where you can research clues and then put them to use in the game.
  • Original score by the rock’n’roll band British Sea Power.

Disco Elysium is currently available for PC (Steam and GOG.com), and coming to PS4/Xbox One in 2020.
