'Battle Brothers' Comes To Nintendo Switch Later This Year - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 30, 2020 @ 8:19 a.m. PST

Battle Brothers sends players to an open medieval low-fantasy world in which they are tasked to lead a band of up to twenty mercenaries, each coming with individual skills and properties.

Battle Brothers is a turn based tactical RPG which has you leading a mercenary company in a gritty, low-power, medieval fantasy world. You decide where to go, whom to hire or to fight, what contracts to take and how to train and equip your men in a procedurally generated open world campaign. Do you have what it takes to lead them through bloody battles and to victory?

By taking contracts, hunting for treasures and fighting numerous battles band members improve skills, gain experience points and new abilities. In the complex combat mode the strong AI opponents can only be overcome if players make good use of their mercenaries’ individual strengths and the particular terrain of the battle ground.

The game consists of a strategic worldmap and a tactical combat layer. On the worldmap you can freely travel in order to take contracts that earn you good coin, find places worth looting, enemies worth pursuing or towns to resupply and hire men at. This is also where you manage, level up and equip your Battle Brothers. Once you engage a hostile party the game will switch to a tactical map where the actual fighting takes place as detailed turn based combat.

In addition to all of Battle Brothers’ tactical depth, UKIYO Publishing and Overhype Studios will release all DLC, including the Lindwurm, Warriors of the North, Beasts & Exploration, and Blazing Deserts expansions, adding a bevy of new gameplay mechanics, quests, creatures, equipment and more post-launch this summer.

“Battle Brothers was a big success for us on PC thanks to our passionate and supportive community that offered us loads of useful feedback,” said Jan Taaks from Overhype Studios. “Among other things a Switch version of the game was kept being requested to allow Battle Brothers to be played on the go. In addition, we can now bring our challenging, hardcore strategy game to a whole new audience on the Switch!"

“When we first saw Battle Brothers we were instantly in love with it and were really hoping that we could port it to Switch for a whole new audience,” said Martin Hann of UKIYO Publishing. “We love both tactics titles and gaming on the go, so this was a match made in heaven… only with a lot more decapitations.”

Key Features:

  • Manage a medieval mercenary company in a procedurally generated open world.
  • Fight complex turn-based tactical battles with historical equipment and brutal injuries.
  • Permadeath. All characters that die in combat will stay dead – unless they return as the undead.
  • All characters come with their own background stories and traits. Want a stuttering ratcatcher, a greedy witch hunter or a drunkard disowned noble?
  • Character development without a restrictive class-system. Each character gains experience through combat, can level up and acquire powerful perks.
  • Equipment that matters. Different weapons grant unique skills – split shields with axes, stun enemies with maces, form a spearwall with spears or crush armor with a warhammer.
  • Diverse enemy roster. All enemies have unique equipment, skills and AI behavior.
  • A dynamic event system with atmospheric encounters and tough decisions outside of combat.
  • Three late game crises – a war between noble houses, a greenskin invasion and an undead scourge – add a looming threat.
  • Two full hours of orchestral soundtrack.
  • 70 Steam Achievements and Steam Trading Cards.

Battle Brothers was inspired by groundbreaking strategy classics such as XCOM: UFO Defense, Jagged Alliance, Warhammer: Shadow Of The Horned Rat or Mount & Blade.

Currently available for PC (Steam), Battle Brothers is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.
