'Embr' Early Access Update Adds New Play Mode, Level and More - Trailer

by Rainier on July 9, 2020 @ 6:00 a.m. PDT

Embr is a fantastically fictional take on our world where citizens across the globe have embraced the gig economy to and now stand ready, phones in hand, to respond to your firefighting emergencies.

At a time when our take-out is biked over to us by CEOs trying to bolster their savings in the evenings, and our cabs are driven by anyone with a license and access to four wheels, it makes you wonder whether any of these everyday heroes could turn their talents to some of the bigger jobs.

Do we really need to hit 911/999 when we spot smoke streaming from a building? Yes, yes we do. Just for fun, however, let’s imagine an alternative reality where all such emergencies are handled by the people on the street - where the butcher at the end of the road supplements his wage by driving ambulances in between customers, and the headmistress at your local school fills time between classes performing operations on the backstreets.

Players will work through a variety of missions to earn money and upgrade their firefighting tools and lease better vehicles and fire trucks, all while dealing with competition from the Canadian firefighting startup Hosr. Staying competitive, however, relies on players working together, planning firefighting and rescuing in dense environments with complex systems interactions; water, fire, gas, electricity, and structure integrity all have a role to play.

Players will work together in online co-op multiplayer to earn tips from clients, earning the ever-so-crucial 5-star rating in order to earn cash, upgrade tools, and become the ultimate ‘have-a-go hero’ firefighter.

In Embr, players come together to create unexpected and ingenious solutions...or they can have a lot of fun failing.

Embr is available on Steam Early Access and Google Stadia for $19.99/€19.99/£17.99.

The first free major update to Embr is rolling out on both platforms, marking the first of several significant content drops planned for the coming months.

The Embr Eats update adds a brand new play mode to proceedings, allowing players to top up their income from their regular have-a-go firefighting shenanigans with a new take-out delivery service.

Also included in the update is a fresh level dubbed Empire Towers, where Embr Responders will be able to take on a blaze in a densely packed high-rise: those with a fear of heights, or indeed trampolines, need not apply.

According to Howard Tsao, Team Lead at Muse Games, the update is part and parcel of the developer listening to the wants and wishes of the game’s growing community, with YouTube videos of playthroughs having amassed an amazing 22 million views and counting.

“Everybody who has played the game so far knows that Embr’s frenzied take on firefighting is a satirical way of taking a look at the gig economy,” says Howard Tsao, Team Lead at Muse Games. “The new update takes that even further, with the Embr Eats feature throwing take-out delivery into the mix for good measure. Delivering food is a way for players to top up their earnings and we also think it adds a new take on the world of Embr. This is just the first of our ideas, too - we have more where this came from. We’re very much a ‘live project’ with the game in Early Access, and so improving the game - both with bug fixes and new play modes like this - is a huge priority.”

The update in full includes:

  • New Embr Eats game mode: Feed hungry punters, serve meals, and save lives.
  • New level Empire Towers: Test your skills in this densely packed high rise. Don't forget your trampoline in our tallest building yet!
  • New offhand tool Stim Pen: A single-use self-stim pen to regain health - a quick and easy to carry solution for all your bumps and bruises (Use only as directed by a medical professional!).
  • Curve Crossover Fashion Pack, including:
    • Bomber Crew Outfit - Hat & Jacket
    • Hot Shot Outfit - Hat & Jacket
    • American Fugitive Outfit - Shirt & Pants
    • Stealth Inc Outfit: Goggles, Shirt, Gloves, & Pants
  • Early Access and Convention exclusive item: The FAX Hat

Embr is in development for PC (Steam) and Google Stadia.
