About Tony "OUberLord" Mitera

I've been entrenched in the world of game reviews for almost a decade, and I've been playing them for even longer. I'm primarily a PC gamer, though I own and play pretty much all modern platforms. When I'm not shooting up the place in the online arena, I can be found working in the IT field, which has just as many computers but far less shooting. Usually.

PS4 Preview - 'Wild Guns: Reloaded'

Wild Guns Reloaded is a fast-paced, gallery-style shooter that mixes the Wild West with steampunk. Play as Clint, Annie or two new characters, or all together in multiplayer action!

Wild Guns was kind of a big deal back in the late '90s, and it one of Natsume's earliest and beloved classics. The game was a popular shoot-'em-up featuring Clint and Annie as they traded fire with enemies via the game's signature back-to-front perspective. To celebrate Nasume Japan's 30-year anniversary, the title is being remade as Wild Guns: Reloaded for the PS4.

Wild Guns: Reloaded has been upscaled and converted to a widescreen resolution, but it's otherwise quite faithful to the original material. Enhanced graphics aside, the title is still very much about moving your reticle and dodging enemy bullets as you make your way through the levels. The formula is still similar to the SNES iteration in that regard, though that's not to say that some things haven't been changed.

For starters, the original six levels have now been upped to eight in total. I didn't get to see the new additions but was told that they are still undergoing testing and tweaking to get their balance correct. There will be two new weapons that you can collect during gameplay. One of the new additions is a laser weapon that rakes the screen with an energy beam. The other weapon hasn't been announced, and Natsume is being very tight-lipped about what it will be.

The other big addition is that there will be two more characters. In addition to Clint and Annie, we will be getting Bullet and Doris. Bullet is described as a doggy while Doris will be a heavy shooter, though neither were playable in the build I checked out. What was playable was four-player co-op, which is another new addition to the game. The co-op will only be local for now, and while online co-op is being investigated, it is far from guaranteed.

Wild Guns was a great game, and it is good to see it get a fresh coat of paint and some new tweaks as it makes its way to the PS4. There's also the possibility that the title may reach other consoles, but a lot of that is still up in the air. Wild Guns: Reloaded is a great way to breathe new life into a classic, and we'll all get the chance to check it out this fall.
