9. 'Final Fantasy XII' (PS2)

Final Fantasy XII shakes the series to its core with the introduction of a unique new combat system, while still honoring the franchise's reputation for epic storytelling, incredible spectacle, and compelling characters.

Kris Graft: Ok, we're on the twelfth "Final" Fantasy. The series still holds bragging rights to some of the most memorable RPG experiences, but it's getting worn out. FFXII is looking to change that perception. The main reason that this made my most anticipated games list is largely because of one fact: Yasumi Matsuno is directing it. He's the man behind Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Ogre Battle. The game even takes place in Ivalice, of Tactics fame. This one is set to breathe some life into the series.

Geson Hatchett: Ahh, Ivalice. Your world intrigues me - yet, the only ways I can currently access it put me to sleep. Yes, I'll admit, I'm one of those people who didn't froth over the Tactics series. It's not that I have anything against strategy RPGs - I'm a huge Shining Force mark - but when a game takes eight whole hours to become fun for me, there's either something wrong with it, or with myself. Since I am never, ever wrong, I readily choose the former. Final Fantasy XII will not only allow me to experience the intriguing world of Ivalice (and the cute bunnygirls therein!) by way of a game format that I'll actually be able to stay awake long enough to experience, but it will also be a chance for Square Enix to both physically and mentally flesh out the world in a way that only their high-budget production studios can. And, heck, they've already got a proven gameplay track record. Sign me up, please.

Hank Wang: The reason I am looking forward to this new Final Fantasy series is because, honestly, it's got the Final Fantasy name, and if it's like the rest, it'll be quite enjoyable. Aside from that, I'm also expecting superb music, storyline, and graphics, mainly because the character models I've seen thus far are amazing. Of course, I would be lying to say that the music isn't also another factor, since FF always had a great soundtrack, and if this one doesn't deliver on that aspect, I would be quite disappointed.
