About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

7. 'Bloodborne' (PS4)

Bloodborne is an Action RPG that will transport players to a dark and terror-filled gothic world, a world full of deranged beings and nightmarish creatures.

Dustin Chadwell: If you have any love for the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls series from From Software, then I don't need to explain why you should be excited for Bloodborne. The whole gothic, creepy feel of those titles carries over nicely to this new epic collaboration between From Software and Sony. The addition of actual gunplay makes me very intrigued to see how this punishing adventure plays out.

Chris DeAngelus: The Souls franchise has earned a reputation for its high difficulty and intense gameplay. Bloodborne isn't technically part of the Dark Souls franchise, but it's a spinoff that moves things toward a more Victorian era. The gameplay follows the same core Dark Souls formula, with a few significant changes. The speed has been drastically increased, with emphasis on a parry-based gun mechanic and fast dodging, so the game has a very different feel. The addition of a randomly generated dungeon mode has the potential to give Bloodborne nearly infinite replay value.

Brian Dumlao: All we needed to know was that this is a spiritual successor to the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls games, and we can be excited about that. Retaining the same punishing difficulty and bringing it forward to a new console is exciting enough, but combining it with cooperative multiplayer ups the excitement just a bit more. With it being a console exclusive, it's a potential positive for the PS4, a platform that wasn't exactly shining with exclusives last fall.
