About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

8. 'Gotham Knights' (PS5/PS4/XSX/XOne/PC)

by Judy on Feb. 15, 2021 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Gotham Knights is an open world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman's death.

Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: If there is one game my sister and I have always wanted, it's a Bat Family co-op game. Batman is all well and good, but it's the rest of his cast — Nightwing, Red Hood, all the various Robins — that are my favorite part. The only thing that could make me more excited about this game is if it were four-player co-op instead of only two-player, but I'm willing to compromise just this once. I call dibs on Red Hood.

Adam Pavlacka: Bruce Wayne is dead. (Maybe? Until you see the body, and even then, never believe that someone is dead in a comic story, but we'll run with it for now.) With Batman gone and Gotham City police potentially corrupt, it's up to Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin to save Gotham from itself. Although WB Montreal previously developed Arkham Origins, Gotham Knights is set in a different world, so the potential for the story is wide open. It's a sure bet that the Joker will be involved somehow. One of the more appealing features in this open-world romp is the drop-in/drop-out co-op multiplayer. Heroes often team up in the comics, so having a friend jump in when needed just makes sense. As long as the story lives up to the action, Gotham Knights should be a ready-made hit.

Andreas Salmen: Welcome to the world of live service games. While we've managed to leave behind a few not-so-great titles, there are many promising ones on the horizon, like Gotham Knights. It looks close enough to what the Arkham titles did right, so I'm hopeful that this online grinding experience might be worth the time and money. If it succeeds in what it needs to do to be successful, it could certainly be a triumphant return to the world of Gotham.
