Rock Your Party Weekend is a special Xbox Live event happening the weekend of the big game, February 1-3, 2008 for U.S. and Canada residents. The 72-hour event gives players the chance to prove their axe grinding skills and includes a Play & Win Sweepstakes that offers gamers who register and play, the chance to win a multitude of prizes.

Activision has rolled out three new track for GH III, single song downloads from such popular European bands as Extremoduro, Trust and Die Fantastischen Vier, as well as a free, exclusive rock rendition of the holiday classic "We Three Kings," recorded by Steve Ouimette.

Apart from the new tracks revealed earlier today, a new Guitar Hero III update has been rolled out, which is available worldwide on the X360 and for North American PS3s (the European and Australian update has been submitted to Sony, but not approved yet). The update enables the Hyperspeed cheat in online games, adds the Co-Op Quickplay mode on PS3, calibration improvements, various stability improvements and fixes.

Master recordings from Warner/Reprise artists Linkin Park, Mastadon and The Used will be available as downloadable track pack for GH III later this month, as well as single song downloads from such popular European bands as Extremoduro, Trust and Die Fantastischen Vier, as well as a free, exclusive rock rendition of the holiday classic "We Three Kings," recorded by Steve Ouimette.

Harmonix created a software patch for the PS3 version of Rock Band to allow guitar compatibility for third-party peripherals, including Activision's Guitar Hero III controller. The compatibility patch was approved by Sony and had been scheduled for release on Dec. 4, but due to Activision's continued objection, the patch will not be released.

Neversoft, Bungie, Activision/RedOctane, and Microsoft have all joined forces to bring players the Halo theme (MJOLNIR Mix) as a free playable song for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, downloadable through Xbox Live on Thursday, Nov. 22nd.

So far more than 300,000 downloadable song packs were sold, and despite outrage from a lot of game fans, Red Octane's head of publishing Dusty Welch said it will not lower the price.

Play N Trade announced the launch of its first National Guitar Hero II video contest and live-in store national tournament. From now until June 16, consumers are invited to submit their Guitar Hero rock videos to YouTube for a chance to win an Xbox 360 Guitar Hero bundle or a $50 in-store gift card.

While Guitar Hero 2 has been out on the PS2 for several months, Xbox 360 owners have only had the pleasure for a few days. RedOctane, however, is not wasting any time and has already confirmed that Guitar Hero 3 for the PlayStation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for U.S. release in fall 2007.

The rock gods have spoken, and are pleased to announce further details on the Xbox 360 version of Activision's Guitar Hero II, which will feature a variety of new exclusive downloadable content through Xbox Live Marketplace, along with over 70 finger-melting tracks.

RedOctane announced that starting this November fans will be able to shred with a wireless guitar controller that will be compatible with Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II, at a suggested retail price of $59.99.
