NEW VERSION OF GAME AUDIO DEVELOPMENT TOOLKIT NOW AVAILABLE FROM ANALOG DEVICES
- Hyper-realistic Audio Rendering Toolkit Brings Advanced Algorithmic Audio Solution to Game Developers; Support for PlayStation 2 and Xbox Featured
- New "AudioForGames" Site for Developers Also Launched
Addressing consumer demand for increased audio realism in gaming environments, Analog Devices today announced a new version of its SoundMAX® Audio Rendering Technology Toolkit (SMartTools(tm))-which now offers significantly improved cross-platform output capability and a more intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) to game audio developers. With built-in support for the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system and the Xbox(tm) video game system, as well as for PC systems, SMartTools enables developers to target the industry's most popular gaming platforms.
Using a drag-and-drop GUI tool, SMartTools enables developers to add uniquely rendered sound effects by employing non-repetitive, interactive audio "behaviors" in place of the static sound effects typically found in games. By modeling realistic sound effects based on real-world or imagined events, developers can increase the immersive quality of the gaming experience.
Some of the world's leading game publishers, including Electronic Arts, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Online Entertainment, Moto 1, Infogrames and Victory Entertainment, have used Analog Devices' audio rendering technology to bring their game sound effects to a new level.
Analog Devices will be demonstrating SMartTools as well as launching its game developer support site, at the Game Developers' Conference in San Jose, CA (March 19-23, 2002), Booth #1702. AudioForGames.com is designed to provide hands-on support to game developers interested in elevating audio realism to match the dramatic complexity of game graphics.
SMartTools is available today and is licensed at no cost to qualified developers. Games developed with SMartTools ship under the SoundMAX SPX brand. As a cross-platform solution, SMartTools is available for the PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox platforms. For more information, please visit our website
