Pierre Gilhodes, one of the creators of the original Goblins series of quests, kept silence for more than 10 years – drawing comic books, and also drawing a conclusion that the world has forgotten how to make funny and clever quests.
In 2006, Pierre lost his patience and decided to return Goblins into the world of computer games. He teamed up with a small studio from south of France, Société Pollene, and with an independent production fund from Moscow, Snowberry Connection, to work on Gobliiins 4.
In this forth chapter, the game returns to where it all began: the main characters are the three goblins, each a unique personality with his own set of skills. Tchoup can pick items and keep them in his pockets, and he’s a detective. His friend Stucco is not as good at the deductive reasoning (to be honest, he’s not good at all!) – but he is strong enough to do lifting and climbing. The third goblin, Perlius, is the one with the magic powers and a dark sense of humor.
The first three games in the Goblins series are now available to every customer of Gobliiins 4 as a free bonus (only via digital distribution channels: Gamersgate and Impulse).
Playing these games on modern operating systems is made possible by the ScummVM program – the easiest way to enjoy the greatest adventure hits of the past.
Alexander Souslov (Snowberry Connection): “Thanks to ScummVM, thousands of gamers around the world can enjoy the good old Goblins without any compatibility problems and headache”
Max Horn (ScummVM): “Playing the Gobliiins games has been fun over a decade ago, and stil is. ScummVM allows you to enjoy them (and other classics) again on modern hardware, like your smartphone - if you are lucky enough to own them. That's why we at ScummVM are excited to see these gems being re-released to the public, together with the latest installment of this wonderful series. Thanks, Snowberry!"
King Balderone, ruler off the Goblins’ world, is miserable. The orycterope Riri, the king’s favourite pet, has suddenly run away. Three diminutive but clever detectives Stucco, who can push things, Tchop, who manages the inventory, and Purlius, caster of spells, receive a Royal order from their King. Their mission is to find Riri, and prove to King Balderone that Riri is happier now than when he was living with the King.
Their quest to find Riri turns out to be more adventurous and complicated than the three detectives expected, even though Stucco, Tchop and Purlius are close on the pet orycterope’s heels. In their quest they have to solve many challenging riddles as well as defending themselves from dangerous monsters. But whether the three will find Riri and whether Riri is happier now than when he was with King Balderone, you will need to find out for yourself!
Will you be able to find Riri, by solving challenging riddles while avoiding some really rather nasty monsters, all within a world like you have never seen before?
The games mix elements of adventure and puzzle gaming. In essence, the player must find the solution to each level, in order to progress to the next. An original aspect of the series is that the player usually controls multiple goblins as player characters, each of whom has a unique set of abilities (the number of letter it’s in the word "Goblin" of the title indicates the number of characters that the player may control). The player may only control one character at a time but, depending on the specific scene, may switch characters at will.
Gobliiins 4 is developed by Société Pollene (France), designed Pierre Gilhodes and produced by Snowberry Connection (Russia). It is a rare case of Russo-French co-production which puts Napoleon’s ambition to shame, look at the wonders these nations can do when they work together!
Gobliiins 4 will be released on April 24, 2009 for a recommended retail price of £19.99.
