by Rainier on Sept. 27, 2011 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is not a sequel, but a complete rebirth, a phoenix from the ashes flying at three times the speed of sound built from the ground up, with new technology fueling a passionately realized vision of a game that puts players in the dark heart of the fight like no aerial combat game has done before.

The demanding Project Aces development team at Namco Bandai Games Inc. in Japan weren’t satisfied. They wanted more from the series. They wanted planes that tore apart limb from limb right in front of your face, spewing their oil lifeblood across the sky. They wanted to scrape the streets and dodge the steel skyscrapers of real world cities at blistering speeds, in an enthralling war drama that spanned the globe with a web of intrigue. They wanted players to pick up the controller and become deadly combat pilots in seconds, pulling off breathtaking kills at impossible speeds, and doing battle online in a multiplayer sky littered with fiery supersonic debris. What they wanted was steel carnage in the sky.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is not a sequel in the Ace Combat series, but a complete rebirth, a phoenix from the ashes flying at three times the speed of sound. The Project Aces team is building Ace Combat: Assault Horizon from the ground up, with new technology fueling their passionately realized vision of a game that puts players in the dark heart of the fight like no aerial combat game has done before.

Featuring a story written by New York Times’ bestselling military author, Jim DeFelice, writer of Leopards Kill and Threat Level Black, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon puts players in the shoes of a top gun pilot in an international task force.  The engaging war drama will span real-world locations, such as Dubai and Russia, and incorporate new categories of aircrafts, including super-sonic jets and the introduction of the attack helicopter, door gunner and more.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon introduces a revolutionary close-range assault system that delivers high-speed acrobatics and one-on-one encounters to make dogfights more tense and exciting.  Players will engage in combat across the globe, dodging skyscrapers, and turning their enemies into fiery supersonic debris in both single player and online multiplayer.

While supplies last, fans who purchase  Ace Combat: Assault Horizon at participating retailers beginning on launch day will receive three free multiplayer skills to enhance the online combat experience.  Also from day one, all players will be able to download the fantastic winning entry to the recent Facebook Skin Design Contest, Death Rider by Chi-Chun Liu, as a playable skin for the F15-C fighter.

With the team at Project Aces now hard at work on the game’s downloadable content, some premium DLC is scheduled for post-launch featuring a brand new fictional aircraft, the ASF-X Shinden II, CFA-44 Nosferatu, as well as Su-37 Terminator, Tornado GR.4, AV-8B Harrier II Plus, YF-23 Black Widow II, F-15S/MTD and KA-50 Hokum. Loads more premium DLC content, including skins and maps, such as Tokyo and Hawaii, is lined up for release over the months ahead to keep the skies alive with fire.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, rated “T” for Teen, will be available for the suggested retail price of $59.99.
