Atari and Melbourne House are pleased to announce a closed public beta test for Test Drive Unlimited on the PS2. Accepting North American entries only, the purpose of the beta is to receive consumer feedback on tuning and balancing, assessing online stability, and general functionality testing.

Warfare is a real-time global war simulator with real material and it's devoted to a conflict in the Near East. There are two campaigns, one for the USA, the other for Saudi Arabia. GSC Game World sent out a newsletter officially confirming the Q1 2007 release date of the long-awaited survival FPS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The oft-delayed title was originally scheduled for a 2003 release so we're not sure if this date is set in stone, but it's something.

In-Game Advertising Revenue to Top $400 Million by 2009

According to Parks Associates, PC in-game advertising will increase from $80 million in 2005 to more than $400 million in 2009. In 2005, U.S. Internet gamer households received about $0.10 worth of advertisement-supported gaming content on a monthly basis, compared to $50 worth of TV content.

Lighthouse Interactive along with their North American co-publishing partner, Destineer Publishing, today announced that PC gaming application provider Xfire will be hosting a closed beta program for their 4X strategy game, Sword of the Stars, and are now accepting applications for the closed beta test.

The first day of EVE Online's open Beta in China resulted in a new world record for the number of simultaneous users playing in the same game world, as more than 30,000 users logged into the game server just hours after opening, and over 200,000 players from China registered for the game during the first day of the open Beta.
