Last month, it was rumored that Orlando "Legolas" Bloom had signed on to star as the Prince of Persia in Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game, which was shortly thereafter debunked by Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, Jarhead) and newcomer Gemma Arterton (James Bond: Quantum of Solace) are the final choices. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is set to start filming in Morocco this July.

If previous trademark registrations are any indication, then Ubisoft's next installment in the Prince of Persia franchise will be called Prince of Persia Prodigy. According to
trademork, Jordan Mechner has locked in the next installment in the Sands of Time trilogy, as he also owns The Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. Maybe we'll get more details at UbiDays or E3.

While Ubisoft
made its intentions clear about wanting to enter into film production and book publishing, it's upcoming Prince of Persia movie is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Mike Newell (apparently
Michael Bay is no longer involved) and to be distributed by Disney. Set to start filming this July, in Morocco, the lead role for Prince of Persia
has been cast, Orlando Bloom, know for his role as Lord of the Rings' Legolas, who has been chosen over High School Musical's Zac Efron.
UPDATE: Comingsoon claims to have contacted Disney denying Bloom has been cast.

Independent Entertainment News has gotten the scoop that Jerry Bruckheimer finally settled on a director for the movie adaptation based on Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Michael Bay, currently finishing The Transformers, will direct, and the movie is currently set to be released Summer 2009. PoP creator Jordan Mechner wrote the first draft of the screenplay with subsequent drafts by Jeffrey Nachmanoff.

Ubisoft plans to release a Prince of Persia bundle in time for the holidays. Prince of Persia: Trilogy will combine Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones in one package. Scheduled for release October 27, 2006, all for the standard price of a regular game, it unfortunately only seems to be on PS2.

interview with ComingSoon.net, Jerry Bruckheimer, known for Bad Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean and Black Hawk Down) has revealed that they have a Prince of Persia movie project lined up. "In February, we start a picture called 'Deja Vu' in New Orleans, which I think will be the first movie being shot in New Orleans since Katrina with Denzel Washington playing the lead and Tony Scott directing. He did 'Top Gun' with me and 'Enemy of the State.' Then we have a thing called 'Prince of Persia,' which is a big video game, that we're considering doing, and another thing called 'Unnatural History' that we're working on."

Prince of Persia The Two Thrones takes the best features from The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, and combines them with new gameplay elements such as a second playable character, an intuitive Speed Kill system, outdoor Babylon environment, chariot combat and more. This tiny patch only concerns the Windows Media Center users and registers the game with the Media Center shell, places a new icon in the More Programs section, and allows for the use of 3rd-party shells.

As a kid, one of my favorite games was the PC classic, Prince of Persia. It was a crushingly hard and deeply unforgiving game that nonetheless manages to be addicting enough that I memorized every pixel of it. A variety of sequels have ranged from fun to terrible, but few could ever match the enjoyment of the original Prince of Persia.
