After yesterday's exciting announcement about DOOM 3 going gold, id's Todd Hollenshead sent out some information about a possible demo, "our priority was finishing the game first and now we are turning our attention to the demo. I don't have any information to share regarding any specific content, but I don't believe that we have ever disappointed in that regard in the past. We will release the demo as soon as it's done, but this probably won't happen until after the game has arrived on U.S. store shelves." Of course, we will have it mirrored on our file server network as soon as it becomes available ...

Gamestop are listing an August 3rd release date for the PC version of Activision/Id Software's DOOM 3. Going an extra step further Gamestop even claims "Official launch date of August 3rd, 2004 confirmed!". We tried to contact several Activision PR people and everywhere we got the same "no comment".

Universal Pictures has optioned Doom for producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and John Wells, with Enda McCallion attached to make his directorial debut, reports Variety. The script, originated by Dave Callaham, is adapted from the plotline for the id Software and Activision video game "Doom 3," slated for release July 15. The story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility.

The NIN (Nine Inch Nails) Hotline let us know that Trent Reznor is no longer involved with ID software's Doom 3 project. The length of time needed to complete the gaming project has taken longer than expected. "Trent's music/sound will not be available for release in the retail game or in any further game demos".

Homelan that there is an interesting Reuters article on
Yahoo about how industry people expect Doom III and Half Life 2 to lift up the PC games sales records. Two of the most-anticipated video games of 2003 put those much-maligned life forms back in the cross hairs of PC gamers in a pair of sequel games -- "Doom III" and "Half-Life 2." Some see those games acting as a catalyst that could recharge the fortunes of computer gaming after an unprecedented sales slump last year.

Blues digged up some news about the early build of DOOM III that was leaked last week.. id Software's John Carmack posted some comments on the
Slashdot forum. Here is the clip:
No, this was not leaked on purpose.
Yes, we are upset about it, and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies in the future, but nothing drastic is going to change in terms of what support is going to be available.
Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised.
