This is the v1.4 dedicated Linux (beta 7) server for EA/Digital Illusions' multiplayer first-person shooter BattleField 1942. After we had a leaked version, EA has now finally released the official v1.4 update patch for BattleField 1942. This upgrade includes two new rifles replacing earlier versions, some gameplay tweaks, graphical enhancements, networking improvements, bug fixes etc. The update comes in two flavors, one from the last v1.31 update or the full (and much larger) version. The official site for Battlefield 1942 is updated with a new Vehicle, the German Sturmmorser Tiger (Sturmtiger). When the Germans needed a powerful field vehicle to destroy fortified positions, the idea to merge a heavy 38cm naval mortar (used to bust submarines) with a Tiger I tank chassis gave birth to the Sturmtiger.
Watch out for this rolling bunker buster.

A post from last week on Gameplanet says that the latest New Zealand release schedule from Electronic Arts lists a new add-on called Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons scheduled to ship in September of this year. No further details are provided other than a listed $49.95 MSRP or $28.00 in the U.S (thanks Bluesnews).

EA and DICE have released a new free map for Battlefield 1942. This totally unexpected announcement allows owners of Battlefield 1942 to download the new desert based map, Operation Aberdeen. Operation Aberdeen is the latest free map from DICE. It is an all armor battle set in the desert. The game is not out yet but nonetheless Electronic Arts sends along a patch for the full version of Battlefield 1942, shipping to stores and expected end of this week. This v1.1 patch brings the same changes and fixes as the multiplayer demo update, including support for the All Seeing Eye server browser, higher refresh rates, internal server browser improvements, bug fixes, and more. Additionally, the v1.1 Win32 dedicated server for the full game is now available, allowing server administrators to host all 16 maps in all gameplay modes.
