That a new installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise is in the works is not much of a surprise, but according to
a teaser site (owned by Midway and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon listed as admin.) According to the countdown timer, the official announcement is expected to made Thursday April 17, to coincide with Midway's annual Gamers Day in Las Vegas, where we will be present and report live as it happens...

Earlier this month
Midway's financials revealed several new titles, such as new installments in the Blitz and NBA Ballers franchises, but also a new Mortal Kombat title. While there have been no details made available yet, the previous MK titles were mainly console oriented. According to Epic, however, the upcoming Unreal Engine 3-powered Mortal Kombat 8 will also be coming to the PC.

Recently spun-off and renamed Other Ocean Interactive (formerly Backbone Charlottetown) is working on bringing Mortal Kombat to the NDS, according to an
interview with Midway's Ed Boon. Ultimate Mortal Kombat is scheduled for November and is a conversion of the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 arcade game. It will support 2-player local or online multiplayer and include Puzzle Kombat, the Super Puzzle Fighter clone featuring super-deformed Mortal Kombat characters.
