Earlier today we attended Vivendi's pre-E3 event and one of the title on display was ... Saber Interactive's FPS TimeShift. Details about the sudden publisher change were not disclosed but it may very well have something to do with Atari's poor financial situation and the confirmation that closing studios and selling off assets were a possibility. Originally scheduled for release in May a VUGames representative did not want to speculate on its release date apart from "when we feel its ready." The Xbox edition was not mentioned at all so it may very well be cancelled.

Things continue to go bad for Atari, as it has received a Nasdaq Staff Deficiency Letter indicating that it is not in compliance with the minimum bid price required for continued listing. Atari has 180 calendar days, until August 30, 2006, to bring its share price up to $1 or higher for 10 consecutive day. If it fails to do so, Nasdaq will provide written notification that its securities will be delisted, which of course Atari would then appeal.

In an interview with UK trade magazine MCV, Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell reveals that the ailing publisher might sell off most, if not all, of its internal studios in order to keep the company financially secure. Atari currently has five studios who are working on some big titles, and Bonnell indicates that these may be shed once their current projects are wrapped up. The studios are: Driver 4's Reflections (UK), current-gen Test Drive's Melbourne House (Australia) Stuntman 2's Paradigm (US), Earthworm Jim's Shiny Studios (US) and next-gen Test Drive's Eden Studios (France).

Atari today released its financial results for the third quarter fiscal 2006, and it's not looking good at all. Net revenue dropped 30%, and went from a net income to a net loss. Additionally, its Executive Vice President and CFO, Diane Baker, resigned to pursue a new opportunity. As if that were not enough, its credit facility let Atari know they will not extend any further credit, which raises substantial doubt about Atari's ability to continue. The statement also reveals that Test Drive Unlimited is coming to PC.
